MK3 remote Device disconnecting in Cubase 13

I can enable the MK3 control of Cubase in the Studio Setup window and it works, however as soon as I add an instrument, my control buttons turn off and I lose control of the DAW. When I reopen the Studio Setup window I see that the MK3 is no longer listed under the Remote Devices list.

I can reload it to regain control, but as soon as add another instrument the lights go off again and I lose control. I've tried reinstalling Cubase, deleting prefs pretty much anything I can think of. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Windows or Mac, and what version?

What kind of hardware and OS?

    What version of Komplete Kontrol?

I once had a similar issue, and it turned out to be that I had Ableton Live open and it had already allocated the MK3 driver, so I couldn't also open it in Cubase 13.

Also, make sure that you are using the "MK3" port with no number after it and not the "MK3 (2)" or "MK3 (3)" port. Those other ports are only for use if you're connecting old-school MIDI cables to the MIDI ports on the back of the unit.

The main symptom was that I could navigate the browser on the MK3 and I could audition preset sounds and load those sounds. But playing the MK3 keys would not cause any sounds to be played, nor would the instrument show any MIDI signal coming in. It turns out that I was somehow using the aforementioned "2" and "3" ports.
