Organizing Kontakt Instruments
I am reposting this because I was unable to add the appropriate tags on my iPad. Sorry if I'm clogging up the discussions…
Like many others, I have used Kontakt since at least version 2 and over the years, my instruments library became unwieldy and difficult to navigate. I found a simple solution recently. I had a spare 4TB drive and I created 27 new folders — one for each letter of the alphabet, plus one for numbers and non alphabetical characters. I then transferred all of my libraries from my old drive to the new one, grouping them by maker’s name from 8dio to Zero G and beyond. By moving to a new drive, the files are contiguous, and they load a little faster since the OS doesn’t have to search for any fragmented parts. Also, the drive is much larger and faster than the old drive so I shouldn't need to do this again for a while.
