Maschine Update Expectations?

What are some of your Maschine 3.0 or other update version expectations?

Here are my expectations:

  1. MP3 support for samples
  2. Better/Faster integration with DAW's
  3. More Fluid Automations
  4. Scene/Pattern Mute Toggle(If i'm performing live i sometimes mute some pads, and its takes me one step deeper to unmute the pad when i switch scenes. Would be nice to have a toggle so we can choose)
  5. Inversions and Octave values in chord mode
  6. User Chords Mode(Can allow new user chord modes which make it sound fresh)
  7. Chord strums. (Helps to make chords sound more realistic.)
  8. User Effects ( The Touchstrip is nice but feels gimmicky. If user effects were allowed, then it would take the performance to the next level)
  9. Other features that allow live performance using the Maschine MK3 or Maschine+ better.

I love using the Maschine MK3 as a groovebox and that how i want it to remain, but, if i was able to use it's scale and chord modes directly into my DAW as MIDI instead of having other methods to import the midi, and control Komplete Kontrol inside the DAW instead of using Maschine inside the day, it will be the device that is the centerpiece of my music production.

Thanks for the read!

I would love better audio manipulation features. for example easy ways to cut and paste audio clips in place. Like in Logic. easier fade in/out workflows and ability to edit gain in regions of the audio. At the moment it feels super clunky if you want to edit a sample. the options are good but they are limited in how you can apply them. I would love something like logics audio editing features. you can drag with the mouse on certain sections to make the audio louder or quieter and just by doing this, you can make a vocal track so much more balanced before having to use processing on it.

Not sure how annoying this next one would be to implement and how messy it would be visually but the ability to see the midi notes or audio clip in song view. atm you just have to kinda guess what the audio is doing when looking at the arranged scenes. its ok for now but that would be sick

all i want is more support for other komplete products such as vc76/super charger/replika etc, reaktor synths like kontour/spark/etc, and more kontakt libraries

and live time stretching with control over formant (like roland variphrase vp9000)

Here's my list of what I'd like to see implemented in Maschine.

    • FLAC/MP3 support
    • Key detection
    • The option to choose between the L and R channel of samples (perhaps something like Ableton Live's Utitlity plugin) or at least the option to choose which channel when resampling internally.
    • Gain control on samples and individual chops, normalize is often way too much.
    • Pitching samples without it affecting the speed (without having to commit to it in Stretch settings)
    • The ability to change the speed of samples and individual chops (again without having to commit) like it's done in Serato Sample.

    • Adjust an independent BPM in each Scene. Or a dedicated track to control / change BPM in Arranger mode. This is a basic one that you can find in old school sequencers … or in modern and old MPCs, so you can set a tempo in a sequence, and when you use "song mode" it use the tempo setting from each sequence.
    • Please, make it posible to use """MIDI""" plugins in tracks. Actually plugins can't send midi info directly to the track where it is loaded.
    • Please, in Maschine + … expand the support for other komplete plugins. The same to be able to load another instruments in Kontakt (for customers that has Komplete ultimate license, it will be great).

The feature that I am most confident will make an appearance in Maschine 3 is stem separation. It's been one of the most requested feature for some time now. And now that it's available in the most recent version of Traktor, there would be an unholy riot if it were not also included in the upcoming Maschine update.

Besides that, I wouldn't be surprise if the new phrase and chord MIDI tools from Kontakt 8 are also included in Maschine 3.

I don't expect a release of new Maschine hardware alongside the software update. But I am hoping that there will at least be a tease/feature preview for a 2025 release.

From memory, I would say that the only reason NI releases new software is because there is new hardware. It would be a surprise to me if this was not the case this time around. I think a new MK4 model with the single screen is very likely to be announced in the near future.

In my opinion, Maschine MK4 sounds like a disaster in the making! I don't know if thats what people want either! But a maschine plus mk2 makes sense! A single screen with a touch screen, 8 gigs of ram and 64 gigs of internal storage, and a SOLID SOFTWARE UPDATE! A standalone maschine is the device we all want, but maschine plus just isnt it! It's a 4/10 product. A software improvement will make every maschine user happy and much more loyal even if the software was to be paid for!

Given all the discussions spawned by the recent official announcement, I thought about my own expectations and willingness to pay for an upcoming Maschine 3.0 software upgrade. After giving it some thought, I came up with 3 categories for expected changes which are Maintenance, Basic and New Features.

    • Maintenance Features are a few of many long overdue maintenance topics, that are a must for an upcoming major release.
    • Basic Features should be included as part of a new major release and would be acceptable to pay money for.
    • New Features would make me personally want to pay extra money for an upgrade.

Additionally, I would like to add another dimension with keywords to differentiate between nice to have and necessary changes, and those which are especially important to me.

    MIDI Capabilities [Maintenance][Necessary]

    • Full routing between Sounds and Groups
    • Full routing of MIDI events for input and output, including controllers
    • Accept MIDI events from plugins
    • Proper handling of MIDI events when recording

    Lock States [Maintenance][Important]

    • Names for Lock States
    • Colours for Lock States
    • Internal triggering of Lock States --> see MIDI routing

    User Interface [Maintenance][Necessary]

    • Good readability also on Hi-DPI screens
    • Ability to widen columns everywhere to show cropped names
    • Proper auto-sizing for selected Pattern

    Sampler [Basic][Necessary]

    • Round Robin
    • Note-Off Sample (like Battery had) - possibly also by defining a Pad's trigger to be the Note Off for another Pad (which would probably be "the Maschine way" of doing it)

    Chords Mode [Basic][Nice]

    • Custom Chord Sets possibly defined in dedicated Patterns within the Project

    Scales [Basic][Nice]

    • Custom Scales possibly defined in dedicated Patterns within the Project

    Pattern Editor [Basic][Important]

    • Pattern Operations (a couple of mathematical/geometric functions like transpose):
      • time stretch by factor (2x, 0.5x as presets)
      • pitch stretch by factor
      • reverse (classical use, think J. S. Bach)
      • inverse (classical use, think J. S. Bach)
      • quantize to scale
    • Crop Pattern (destructive) to selected region as defined by Start and End
    • Naming Schemes for automatic Pattern naming when duplicating

    Sequencer [New][Important]

    • Step conditions
    • Step probability

    Arpeggiator [New][Nice]

    • Selecting Patterns from the Project as custom arpeggio patterns
    • Polyphonic Arp-Patterns, which allows to define chords within an arp-pattern
    • Ability to determine priority/order of chord notes to be applied to from a Pattern (this is probably not so easy without introducing a new type of Pattern)

This list is compiled from my very personal perspective and use cases. There are quite a few other feature requests floating around which are equally valid and important (for a Sampler and Groove Box), such as support for polymeters, tempo changes and time signature changes. Or proper automation editing, especially from the hardware. Or bluetooth MIDI. Or... you know the list of often requested features that accumulated over the years.
