    It's not a rule, it's a company policy.

It might be a year regarding KK, it's only just happened with Maschine.

I've paid in thousands for NI products so I feel I've earned the right to raise my concerns and objections to policy I don't agree with.

You were quite correct with one thing you said. Voting with my wallet has already begun.

100% agreed that you can raise your concerns.

Unfortunately software is unique in its aging and support pattern. Old is out. New is in. No company wants to spend dime one on any product that has been supplanted by something else.

We have no choice but to either accept it or buy something else from someone else.

The wallet is the only rule/policy we can control.

The reality is absolute - every piece of software we will ever buy is rapidly on its way to retirement as soon as we buy it.

Anyone who does not understand this or cannot comprehend how fleeting the support window actually is - best not join this party to begin with to save their sanity and their money.

Maybe NI could set a new president and perhaps even gain a better reputation / relationship with their customers is all I have to say to this.

    No time like the present.

Agreed - I think if NI had more clout - like say - actually owning their own company - they could consider that.

But when you do not own the company - you need to answer to those that do.

Somehow I doubt the latest modern all electric cars will be kept running as long a vintage cars currently go on for and suspect the used market will plummet.

Even my ten year old cars integrated head unit can’t have its maps updated past around 2000, and with the amount of things now requiring paring with the car, using software that the garages like to charge us £50+ just to scan, I simply can’t see current cars being on the road in 20 years time, I hope I’m proven wrong though.

Not by the original vendor though. It's all aftermarket support. Generally car companies stop making parts after 10 years. And, of course, you start paying for everything done on the car after 3 or 4 years.

And what percentage of the marketplace on the whole do you think you represent? I'm not sure there's a compelling business case for any company to do that and keep their companies profitable.

This is the exact essence of all these conversations and no one ever clues in on it.

Everyone both here (and in practically every other forum) think that companies are somehow worried or will bend over backwards in efforts to placate the 1% or 4% (or whatever %) of users that some decision might affect.

The bottom line here is that none of this matters. If a company (like the PE firm that owns NI) determines that making Decision A will affect just 4% of the user base and that impact is worth X $$$ - as long as X does not impact their planning/bottom line in a major way - that is just fine by them. The owners are willing to forego that 4% in favor of ensuring their decision stands.

This is about profit and loss. As long as the former is greater than the latter - NI will be here and will be selling product to anyone who wants it. If that's you - great. If it's not - no problem.

Generally car companies stop making parts after 10 years.

It probably depends… My car is 20+ years old (Skoda) and manufacturer still makes parts for it. And even if company stops making parts in 10 years, they may be avaiable for years on.

And of course that expressing opinion on forum may change company policy/decision. Good example is support for Maschine Jam in Maschine Plus. NI has made Jam EOL just few weeks before M+ release and said, Jam is EOL, so no support for Jam in M+. People have complained on forum and NI has decided to add Jam support later on…. And even thought Jam is EOL for many years, it is still supported in Maschine 3.

And concerning KK and Maschine SW. I do not ask NI to support KK 2.9.4 in Komplete 15 and Maschine 3. I ask to support S88 MK1 in such a way it is fully usable in Komplete Kontrol and Maschine 3. I have bought S88 just six years ago and it has costed 1000+ EUR. It is not a cheap toy to be easily thrown away just because NI has decided to spend few bucks less on support of its HW and so my S88 is not supported any more….. But Maschine Jam, that is EOL years longer, gets support…. So, NI is not consistent even in this….

Actually I do own a Hyundai, my second in a row. And that's only true for the drive train. You're on your own after 36,000 miles for things like air conditioning, cruise control, automatic windows and locks….etc.
