How to use faders when only listening through headphones?

Hi all,

it is 11.30pm in Vancouver and that is why I turn my speakers so I won't annoy my roomies with my music.

Logically I am only able to use my headphones now. But how can I fade in the tracks with the faders and not just with the HI/MID/LOW knobs? Means, I have to turn all the knobs completely to zero and slowly turn them higher to "fade" in the tracks. When using the faders nothing happens which is obviously a little bit annoying.

I definitely had the faders going a couple of times before (when speakers off and only using headphones) but I never understood how! It was always by accident and when I try it on purpose of course I won't get it going.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Cheers,

Ben

    I think I have a clue…

Does it have something to do with the 'headphones mix' knob (the one above headphone volume)?

Sorry if these questions/thoughts sound like I am a bloody noob! I'm mainly used to turntables and have a controller only since 1.5 years. I mean, I started with Traktor DJing almost 20 years but back in the days the midi controllers we used were not even close to this high end thingy I am having right now in front of me. Plus we didn't really care about neighbors.

    Thanks again for any advise

Geez… it is the bloody 'headphones mix' knob 🤦‍♂️

You can't imagine how many nights I was puzzling how and why. Started Traktor new with speakers on then turned them off and vise versa etc. Holy moly how ridiculous!

Thanks community. May these (embarrassing) posts will help someone!

    I'm out! Peace

Yeah, I often mix with headphones only. It's a good skill to have, because sometimes the monitor system in a club can be not so good.

Don't be embarrassed. I talked to long time DJs who somehow did not know you can mix in the cans 🤷
