Traktor mobile setup considerations

Hi,

I would appreciate your thoughts on a mobile setup. Currently using an S2 MK2 with two F1's for stems. I just added a X1 MK3 to my collection of Traktor toys.

I am considering how to replace the S2 for gigs where mobility (travelling) is an issue.
I could see myself using the X1 + the Traktor DJ cable and either one or two F1's, depending on how light I have to travel. What I believe I don't need is adding a Z1 to the setup, because then I would end up with a setup even larger than S2+F1+F1 and it would not add needed functionality besides the DAC. I could map CUE-MIX and CUE-Vol to the F1 or X1, I won't need a Z1 for that, as far as I understand.

Now the actual question is this:
When using the Traktor DJ cable and my MacBook Pro internal DAC, will the sound quality be acceptable for the average smaller club soundsystem*? Would it be wise to buy for instance the Dragonfly cobalt audio interface for better sound quality without taking up space? Or is all of this a bad idea?

*I don't play at big clubs, I play at events for couple dances with max 300 (often more like 50) people and I don't think audio quality is the organizers main concern.

Have you tried using the X1 mk3 has a mixer and do you enjoy it? That is what I would do first, mess around with it and see if it floats your goat. Because I don't.

How would you listen to cue? I mean even if you map it. With the splitter cable? That would results in mono, but can be fine. As a lot of clubs are mono anyway.

I can't say anything about sound quality of the mac books.

I assume the venues don't have a mixer? And you can't add a xone96 or DJM on your rider? Because external mixer + X1 is hella fun.

If you don't mind mapping stuff your self, maybe a reloop mixtour, or mixtour pro is an option.

I use Z1 + X1 for mobile stuff.

I really would miss real faders. Considered X1 Mk3 with Xone:K2? You will have to map K2 yourself most likely bit you have an audio interface and enough controls to map stem and mixer controls.

You are right. In a way, I am getting ahead of myself. I will have to workout using the X1 and/or F1 as a mixer first and see how much I enjoy that.

The listening to cue would indeed work only by using mono, which wouldn't really make a difference for the sound systems in question (to the best of my knowledge).

The venues often have a mixer, but not one with a usb sound interface, if that is what you mean? I usually plug in RCA cables.

Lastly, you're actually making an interesting point about Z1+X1, given that it's fairly comfortable to map stem mute to the X1, and that would be sufficient for the limited setup for me.

I will have to find out if I miss the faders in the days and weeks to come. In any case, I could use the top section of the F1 as my mixer, though, having plenty of faders.
