How to save a multi output configuration in Kontakt/Cubase?

so I have Kontakt 7 and Cubase I want to use different drum modules. Let for this example say abbey Rhodes 60’s and modern drummer.

I want to route the outputs to specific channels in Cubase. So the room mics on a stereo channel the dry kick on a separate channel and a dry snare on a separate channel.

after 2 hours you can’t do this with mono channels. So I got it to work with stereo channels (even though in the output configuration one says stereo and one says aux) that must just a bug.

Soviet it to work with one kit, but then load a new kit and delete the first one so that I can find which kit is going to work with the specific song I’m working on.

how do I save this so the outputs will work and also work in the Cubase channels which is where I started this thread.

If I didn’t get enough information I can take pics tomorrow, so you can see what I’m saying.

my guess is I need to find 6-8 kits I like configure each one individually and save them, but that’s a pain in the butt.

    Hello,

your guess is correct, you would have to load the patches one by one, adapt the routing as you need it and save it as a user preset. And the output naming is a bit strange with the aux naming but those are normal channels as all the others.

Doesn't Kontakt have a multi save and load option. I thought you could have several instruments loaded and save the entire load as a multi. It seems unused instruments use little to no cpu with no notes playing. Those with running effects like reverb might though. Not sure where you find the multi save, possibly under save options.

Yes you can do that and save that as standard configuration, but you then also have to route every instrument, like bass drum or snare to those prepared outputs and that's saved within the instrument preset as far as I know.

I thought a multi saved everything as a mult file. So when you reload it with a daw the daw should remember all of the connections you already set up. You should not have to re set up anything after a daw save. If you do, that would be a pretty bad daw. But I know we're talking apples and oranges. lol

this has been an absolute pain in the butox!!!

I have to do one more couple hour session to figure this out for sure, but this is what it looks like.

1-you must first disengage the Cubase “activate channels” before u switch to a different drum instrument. if u don’t it won’t work

2-u must save the output configuration. In my case it’s 6 stereo outs. Has to be stereo even though all I need is mono because Cubase doesn’t have activate outputs for the mono tracks.

3-then u have to save the kit that u want.

4-u must save the key mapping inside the kit so that the midi mapping works.

5-once those are done you can “activate outputs” in Cubase.

6-If you then don’t like the kit or it doesn’t fit the song, you must start all over from the beginning.

I have no idea what file save does or file save as multi does. Doesn’t appear to me to do anything? There is also a snapshot save but idk if it save all of this that I’m talking about?

    thanks for the replies btw.

    I’ll post more tomorrow.

So if I understand this correctly, you are loading different drum kits into kontakt. Then sending out a few different drums like a kick and a snare to different audio outputs available in kontakt. Well for starters Kontact has several output other than a stereo output. So I think you need to custom assign the outputs of every drum kit you have to and save the patch. But stick with the same kontakt output settings that already interface with your daw. I think Kontakt can be saved as a default so set up kontakt, save it as a default and stick with that because it will always load up in your daw with the same connections. Then your free to exchange the drum kits with others that you have previously saved with kontakts output configuration. When you get into surround sound it really gets cumbersome. But you have to remember that you're not just a musician but a musician setting in the shoes of a studio engineer and that's not exactly my idea of having fun. I'd find some standard core structure that suits you needs and save you daw along with kontakt as a template. Then whenever starting a new project, load in that template. I don't have Cubase so there might not be a template but that doesn't stop you from saving a startup song as a template, just don't overwrite it, save it as a new project immediately with another name. The problem with kontakt is it's open to anyone who wishes to use it. So when you change drum kits, it might be a completely different strategy. So you more or less stuck with assigning drums to specific output then saving the kit. Such a pain when your just trying to have fun.
