Traktor Pro 3 & OneDrive

Hi this is my first query on here.

I've been meaning to sort a solution to backing up my music files to the cloud. I've gone for OneDrive due to availability of 1TB cloud storage.

I don't normally have my DJ laptop on the internet at all, but have updated everything, put OneDrive on and let it kick off syncing.

However in Traktor, I now can't access the Music folder (I've checked in OneDrive to sync to). The files are all still visible in Explorer, just will not expand or access what's in the Music folder via Traktor. Even quitting OneDrive, still no joy.

Any ideas please? I'm still on Windows 10 (shouldn't make any difference).

cheers

thanks guys for the responses, great start to being on here!

I took the advice to check the folder name and indeed, the username\Music folder needed new reference to username\OneDrive\Music to show the files/folders in Traktor again.

It wasn’t set but I manually set to Always on local drive at the main Music folder level. Still uploading so will see how it looks when complete, and understand how to disable OneDrive whilst Traktor in operation.
been meaning to do it for ages and to help keep 2 laptops up to date.

    Thanks again for help!

my wild guess is that now your files are "on the cloud" so they are in a virtual drive/folder/share on the cloud, with no local copies

Traktor usually requires access to the physical file locally, or on a network share that is accessible through the windows explorer.

in your situation, you either want to keep a local copy, or sync the files locally to your computer (i think the option is Right Click>OneDrive>Always available.

I think onedrive/google drive are not viable options to backup files that need to be read and written fast/real-time, so i would advise to use these solutions to backup files, you would probably prefer a archival software that snapshots your library every X days/hours

here's my personnal setup, maybe it will inspire you, or i can find better options

i have a Synology NAS and i can access its shares via the NETBIOS network path, but that is slow and not very stable, especially when you want to analyse and scrub multiples files at once…

instead, i mount a shared fileshates thorugh SAMBA network folder and assign it a drive letter in windows, and so far; this works well enough. my files are within the same LAN network and there is enough bandwith with SMB3 to read 2 files in real-time, analyses some tracks, perform my dj set and i can even record my OBS output to that same NAS (1080p 5MBPS 30FPS), using a single gigabit connection.

anything written directly to the file metadata will be "synced" and that means you can use any PC on your LAN or VPN to access those files as well. only the traktor library needs the be brought between machines

Then at your discretion (i should…) you can archive a copy of this fileshare using any synology software or third party solutions you would like….

Onedrive works great with Traktor, you just need to do as the previous poster mentioned: always available on all the files it needs.

    • Your music
    • Documents/Native Instruments/Traktor Pro x.x.x.
    • Music/Traktor
    • Any other locations if you're using non standard locations

It should even work fine with music not kept locally as long as your internet is good, but wouldn't recommend it.

@soulphuric it sounds like you might actually be using the wrong location possibly. Are you browsing to username/Music rather than username/OneDrive/Music

IIRC by default OneDrive removes your local files/folders and replaces it with copies that are instead shortcuts, which is why i avoided it in the first place… basically symlinks
