Crackling sound effecting playback via S4 Mk2

I have been using my controller since around 2016 every weekend - it's been perfect. But this weekend at my gig there was a problem. There was a crackling sound coming through the speakers when playing tunes via the controller so I was unable to use it.

I swapped out everything while i was setting up for the gig, so tried using it without power to the laptop, without power to the S4 controller, I replaced the connector lead to the laptop from the controller, and event the connector that converts into the new USB-C on my laptop. No difference.

If I listen to the Traktor software direct from the laptop via the laptop headphones everything is ok. So the issue seems to be the controller, not the software.

Can anyone help??

Cheers Use - what do you suggest this should be set as? I've checked and mine is currently at 512.

Tbh I haven't touched this since I started using it 8 years ago so it's weird if this is now suddenly a problem?

Ok 512 is already high, there must be another issue. Have you tried something like this: https://www.sweetwater.com/sweetcare/mac-pc-optimization/

Also, if on PC, use latencymon to check if you don't have a "faulty" driver or service who create huge latency and deactivate/ update it to have a lower latency
