I let my pal have my old Mk2 and told him he needs to purchase the software. But then, he went to the website to do so and they’re not selling it but the upgrade only? How the heck is he supposed to download the library when it isn’t available?!

You only have to unregister the hardware product in your NI account. Not the Software licence.

There is no need to sell Maschine software as standalone product. If you buy a Maschine new you get a licence with it. If you sell a Maschine you can obtain a License transfer ID and give it to the buyer. According to the support article you even keep your software licence and the buyer gets in fact a new own licence. Even if not: With your Mk3 you got a new licence with full library.

You're supposed to transfer the license with the hardware:

@PK The DJ is right. Licence transfer is the way to go.

But there is a way to obtain Maschine software: https://www.native-instruments.com/en/pricing/maschine-essentials/

The package is even reduced while Summer of Sound sale.

But you are only getting the MASCHINE Factory Selection with it not the full MASCHINE Full Factory Library. You can uprade to full library for additional 99€ though (49,50€ till July 8th). https://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/maschine/maschine-accessories/upgrade-your-library/

I’m sorry I should’ve said that I’m using the license transferred when I first bought the mikro and then the mk2 and now I have the mk3. I am letting my friend use the mk2, but it’s pointless without his own copy of Maschine. My question is why did they stop selling the factory library in the first place?

Transfer either the Mk2 or Mikro license to your friend, you already have the MK3 license, so there is no use for the other 2 anyway.
