Does Kontrol Z1 charge the iPad over USB-to-Lightning cable

I recently read that the Kontrol Z1 with Power Device charges the iPad when connected with the USB-B to Lightning adaptor cable.
Is that true?
I own an iPad Pro 12.7 2nd Gen. w/ and want to use it w/ the Z1 and external USB HDD.
How does that work?
Does it at all?

Thanks in advance.

First: If you don‘t already own the Z1 (or if it is relatively young) it won‘t work with iPadOS! The newest hardware revision doesn‘t support this anymore and doesn‘t have the connection for power supply anymore.

USB HDDs use much energy, I am not sure if the HDD would work bus powered with an iPad at all. But if you want to charge your iPad via Z1 and Lightning you don‘t have a free port for it on your iPad anyway.

You’re right. The bus power of the iPad is much to weak for USB harddrives.
The Z1 I bought used, it’s a couple of years old.
It has a connection for power supply, which I ordered today from NI, besides an USB-B to Lightning cable.
Now I just need a possibility to connect the Z1 and a powered USB-hub to the iPad.
The external USB-HDD will get it’s power from the power supplied USB-hub. The Z1 from its own power supply.
    I hope this configuration works.
All I need now is an adaptor to connect Z1 and hub to iPad.
I’ll be happy about all suggestions.
    Cheers
