Is Any Software Required to be Running in Using The MK2 49 with Logic Pro?

Hey,

Somewhat of a newbie here. I just purchased an Alesis VX49 and was disappointed to learn you have to have the VIP app running at all times you’re using the keyboard..at least if you want to use it’s features.

Is this true of the Kontrol MK2 49 as well?

Also I assume the Kontrol software can only access NKS complaint VST’s etc? Meaning it can’t index and preview other sounds and samples?

Yes, to get the full benefit of NI NKS and smartplay features, you need to use the KK software standalone or as a plugin. Komplete Kontrol can be used with any VST plugin, not just NI Vsts, but, KK only supports VST2 for Third Party Vsts and will load VST3 versions of NI Plugins.

There is Integration with Logic that allows the Keyboard to be used as a DAW Controller (transport functions etc., see the section in this document for Logic KOMPLETE KONTROL S-SERIES MK2 DAW Shortcut Sheet (native-instruments.com)) This integration is available regardless of whether you use the KK software as a plugin or not as demonstrated in this video!!!
