Session Musician Key Switches

Is it possible to move or re-allocate the keyswitches for a number of Session musician libraries I have recently invested in,because I found Icon Bass to be simply superb.

I have Strummed Accoustic 2, PIcked Accoustic and Electric Sunburst. Most of my playing is live, making use of Cantabile so I can have a number of instruments in various splits and layers. Needless to say I inevitably end up with another instrument's playable area overlying the key switches. For Icon Bass I simply set the keyboard 1 octave down which pushes the key switches out of the range of my 61 note keyboard, but this doesn't work for the libraries I mentioned. Also, if I limit the note range on Cantabile, I would expect any keys pressed in the limited zone to not get through to the Session musician library, but they do. So instead of have say, strings in the left hand and a lead guitar on "sustain" in the right, I get a variety of articulations depending which notes I may have pressed in the left hand. I get something similar with Stradivari Violin, so at the moment all these libraries can either only be used solo, or for use in recording work only.

Your help would be appreciated.

His is the screenshot of the Electric Sunburst guitar library on Kontakt Player 7. As per the onscreen keyboard, the blue keys are the playable notes, with the various coloured keys to the left being various keyswitch keys. What I want to know is can these coloured keys be moved, say right to the top of the keyboard out of my normal playing range? At the moment, as in the example I gave, I may have a pad sound or strings patch on the bottom part of the keyboard, right where the keyswitches are, so as I play the pad sound I keep changing the articulations of the guitar. I have tried specifying key ranges for each instrument when I am using this within Cantabile (which is a vst host). This works for other vsts, but not for the Session Musician libraries I mentioned - playing thse notes still trigger articulation changes.

I can access key ranges via Instrument Options, but this is only for the playable notes, not the keyswitches. It seems that on the full version of Kontakt 7 there is a mapping editor, but not on Kontakt Player as far as I can see.

    I hope this helps

    I have an idea!

    Maybe this can help!

Try to remove the keys that are not blue colored by simply limiting them with the settings.

Not Guitar settings, the settings button that every NI library that ever exists has.

Then try experimenting with different key switches.

But first, remove the keys that are not colored with blue by limiting or 'cutting out' the keys you don't need.

If you didn't understand, I will show you the screenshot tommorow as an example, because I am currently celebrating New year.

Happy Holidays and God bless you, sir!

    Hi Milos.

    Happy New Year!

Unfortunately I haven't got anywhere with your suggestion. Unless there is a difference between Kontakt Player and the full version, then the only only way of controlling the key range of an instrument is via the Instrument Options dialog box as per the screenshot. The key range i gives is only the playable notes of the instrument, so the keyswitch keys are all set below that range, and therefore beyond the scope of this particular dialog. I have obtained the current Kontakt Player User Manual and spent a lot of time in it, but this seems to be the only place where key range can be specified, so at the moment I do not have any answer. My next port of call is to speak to the Cantabile support team - this program is normally very easy to specify key ranges (indeed this is one of its many strengths!), but the NI library simply ignores this instruction and still lets the key switch data through.

I will get back to you and let you know of any outcome in due course.

Thanks for your help so far

    Dave
