GarageBand MIDI playing GarageBand drums instead of Kontakt third party vst (Gojira Drums)

When I load up my kontakt plug in, the drums in the VST sound as intended and it all appears to be working… but when I use the midi keyboard in GarageBand, I get the stock drums.

It's probably not a problem on the NI side of things, but I'm getting no help from apple support, so I thought id ask here and see if anyone solved a similar problem.
