WHY does Traktor only save playlists on quit!?

Sorry, more of a rant than a question but on the off chance anyone from NI sees this (or anyone knows some sneaky log file I might have missed) why in gods name does traktor, in 2023, only save playlists when you quit it?

I’ve had this issue before, where it crashes and you lose your session history. Fine whatever, can kind of accept that. But if I make a playlist, after 2-3 hours of prep, why the hell is that not written to disk until the app quits? Just spaffed the best part of my Friday night up the wall because apparently writing an xml file while the app is running is too much to ask… if there is a genuine reason for not writing the history file on the fly, then at least stick it in a temp log somewhere?!?

I think I’ve managed to piece most of it back together but honestly man… been a traktor user for 10+ years. Love some of NIs hardware. But the software is just complete turd sometimes 😂

I save the collection every half hour manually when working on my library, so this doesn't happen to me. Rightclick somewhere in the browser tree to access the command. Or better yet, update your keyboard mapping by creating an assignment bound to a key (like ctrl+s) that does it for you by shortcut.

But to answer your question, it takes a bit (5-60 seconds, depending on the amount of data) to save it, during which the program doesn't take any input from mouse, keyboard or controllers. But you are right, there should be a checkbox to activate this in regular intervals.

thanks for the reply man! For me the save collection option only shows up when I right click the very top “track collection” item in the tree.

and yeah I can see why you don’t want everything locking up for 5-10 seconds regularly… maybe there just needs to be a big “save playlist” button on the browser.

played for 2-3 hours, had a really nice set, boxed off the playlist maybe 70-80 tunes, then thought ill just chuck a few random bits in at the end… maybe it’s a sign to end my sets when I’m ahead 😂

There are many things Traktor should be capable of. It's become this large construction project but there are too few people and financial investment to do much more than repair the aging roof when it starts leaking. :p

So i made my own button.

I’ve mapped cmd+s to export whatever playlist is open (eg history)… less than ideal but a lot faster than saving the collection (though I also mapped that). Going to play around and see if there’s any temp files I can get a script to read in intervals or something.

what a pain… thanks for the tips man
