Why won't Kontakt 5 install from my NI hard drive?
I just upgraded to a Mac Studio (M2) and dug out my NI hard drive (Komplete 11). When trying to install Kontakt 5, the Installation fails, telling me I need to allow full access, which I did. Even after a restart I'm still getting this message. I'm considering upgrading to Kontakt 7. Can I do this without Kontakt 5 installed?

@HenryJansen Kontakt 5 was discontinued years ago. In the meantime, Apple changed their chips from Intel to M1/Silicon chips forcing the whole world to adapt.
To be able to install Kontakt 5 you will probably need to install Rosetta first, which is the Intel to Silicon translator, so to say. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211861
Yopu'll also need to install it from Native Access.
Then if you want to use Kontakt 5 in your projects, make sure to run them in Rosetta mode: How to Open Your DAW Using Rosetta
Finally you might have issues with activation: GUITAR RIG 5, KONTAKT and SUPER 8 R2 Open as Demo Versions on Apple Silicon / M-Systems

Well, you don't really want to spend the money if you don't want to.
Secondly, try to make a custom desktop folder for NI plugins and change the location of VST3 plugins to that folder.
Then try to reinstall Kontakt 5.
I tried it with Kontakt 6 around 7 months ago with this tip and it helped me.

Are you running Sonoma on this "upgrade"?
If so - almost none of NI's core tools are supported under Sonoma as of this writing.
Even if you could get it to install - very doubtful that something as old as K5 will work properly.

You can't change the location of VST3 plugins on Mac, and really shouldn't be even trying to run plugins from the desktop anyway - or any application or sample library. On Mac this is often an iCloud location which will seriously affect performance, even on Windows since Win 11 it can be a Onedrive location which does the same. Desktop is just really meant for temp stuff and maybe docs if you want to make it messy.

Yes, it is true.
But i do not use OneDrive (I uninstalled OneDrive)
I simply use the desktop folder if original NI folders don't work.

Maybe you cannot do this for the Mac.
Or can you?
You can just try it.
If it works, great.
If it does not, then we will wait for another tip that might help you.

tbh if you want to get the best from your M2 Mac Studio you probably do need the latest Kontakt. I don't think you need the original installed in order to purchase the upgrade because it's based on your license not what you have installed (which clearly isn't possible anyway on Apple Silicon)
