Maschine + audio stops working on some projects

it's quite arbitrary, but when I load some projects, M+ audio will make a popping noise then the audio will not play on that project. I load a different project, the pop noise happens again, then the newly loaded project plays.

There are also instances where I load a project and a loud screeching noise will come on. I either have to turn off the M+ or load a new project for it to stop.

I'm on the latest system update. This all happens in standalone mode. It did not happen prior to the update.

Anyone have any thoughts or advice?

Then I suggest to contact support. It seems that you have a more severe issue with your audio interface.

    @Jeremy_NI any idea?

Hey @kwest718 Does that happen for every project ? Are these your projects or projects from expansions ?

Is there a common instrument or effect in thse projects ?

    Hi Jeremy,

Not sure if the NI team made headway on this dropped audio bug, but I just got a M+ two weeks ago and have audio randomly stop processing on a project. Was working on the same project for about 6-8 hours without an issue, then loaded in the Holograms kit from Drift Theory and the issue started about 20 minutes in.

The maschine lights and patterns continue playing fine and UI is responsive, just no audio until going to settings>audio> spin left knob to reactivate internal engine (no other sound options plugged in).

@BigPictureSound what are the version numbers of OS/Maschine/Firmware on your M+?

    Apologies for the delayed response.

    System version: 1.5.1.0

    Maschine version: 2.17.5(RO)

    Firmware: 0.1.6

The first experience I had with dropped audio was using Maschine internal audio.

I can also get it to drop intentionally by selecting my sp404mk2 as the audio output, and then scrolling quickly through browser samples. This results in what I think might be a audio driver overload and then dropout

The Firmware 0.1.6 is very old and should be updated to 0.1.9 which resolves quite a few MIDI and audio related problems.

Wow thank you for this tip! What's funny (and tragic) is I just assumed it was all up to date since the unit and boot screen has the new rebranded NI logo, and also because the system info screen gives a nice "Your Maschine is up to date" or something along those lines.

I never would have known to check, so thank you!!

You’re welcome. It’s the reason why I always ask about those version numbers, as many users are not aware of this.

I guess quite a few weird issues and stability problems people experience with the M+ are caused by this old and buggy firmware version.

Hope this helps in your case as well. Please keep us informed.

Other audio devices, like the SP404 are not officially supported by the M+. It's "trial and error". FYI.

Good to know, thanks! I'll probably go back to just running a line in/out loop between the devices, which frees up the usb-c connection on the sp to sample from phone or ipad.

The headphone output introduced some line noise into the signal but oh well. Better than audio crashes.

Unfortunately the firmware update didn't solve the issue of audio drop out while using just Maschine Plus as the internal (default) audio.

However, based on my experience with the device, this really doesn't seem to be hardware related but software/firmware.

I can start to hear the under runs slowly building up when mashing a pad, and the device itself functions flawlessly. Maybe a memory leak or something, I don't know. Another user commented in another thread that the issue didn't exist prior to a previous firmware update, so the one before the version my device came with.

Anywho, what's the best way to get in touch with support? @Jeremy_NI

Thanks all! Great device but of course audio dropping randomly is not easily ignored :)

Sorry it didn’t solve your problem.

Then it would help if you could provide these two items for testimg:

    • an exact step by step description on how to reproduce the problem
    • a minimal test Project which exposes the problem reliably

    Any other ideas @D-One @Jeremy_NI ?

    Yes, as @ozon suggested here.

@BigPictureSound Please post the following in here:

    1. A sound snippet showcasing the issue
    2. A small project (with samples) where you can reproduce the issue.
    3. Step by step guide on how to reproduce the issue.
