i just purchased a cheap n nasty 2nd hand Casio XW-DJ1 to go alongside my maschine jam's & traktor

and i can confirm it is a plugnplay device(Class compliant?) also powered by USB recognised by the m1 mac mini on a Ventura 13.1 OS, configurable to traktor via midi

given my s4 mk1 was given the abandoned status... i thought i'd go the route of class compliant, whether the OS update for Sonoma carries the XW-DJ1 over, i've yet to find out.

the platter is noticeably bigger than the s4 mk1, if only by an inch

an old video someone put up 8years ago comparing the s2 & the XW-DJ1

Hey just checking in with a question, since you have been using this controller.

Do you think it's worthwhile getting this for producing a few scratches for hip-hop beats? Are you happy with how responsive it feels overall?

I do believe the xw-dj1 is sufficient for basic scratches... more complex ones as noted in the video are difficult to pull off due to the cross fader being a little stiff...

the video above is the best guide to determine how well it responds... the aspect to note in the video is the sound when moving the platter slowly... as this effectively changes the sound in respect to resolution of the platter & sound...

on the whole Im not a scratch artist by any stretch... I would consider myself a complete noob, but made the purchase knowing the limitations.

I also purchased the scratch track software to make use of scratching inside a Daw via VST3, which has its uses... the benefit of the Xw-dj1 is it is class compliant... so no fart arising around with drivers etc

I've since purchased another Xw-dj1 as the value of class compliant gear will carry over with mac's and this was the selling point for me.... as I owned a s4 mk1 which is only useful on a windows 10 PC

so weighing up everything I'm satisfied with the basics both in Traktor as well as being used as a VST3 in scratch track... your milage will differ depending on use case!

    Good luck with your decision!
