Komplete Kontrol VST2 missing? (MAC)

Hi.

Just moved over from PC to Mac and have done a fresh install of everything.

Unfortunately, I cant see Komplete Kontrol as a VST2 plugin. I know this is because this is based on an older version of KK, but the issue is that ALL of the the tunes I have made previously used the VST2 plugin.

They now wont load on the Mac as that only lists the VST3 version of KK.

Is there an easy way around this aside from uninstalling and reinstalling with an earlier version?

I've rolled back to 2.9.6, but I'm still not seeing the KK plugin listed in my VST (VST2 folder) in Ableton.

This leaves me with the same issue in that when I load an old track that used the vst2 KK plugin, I get the error message 'The vst2 plug-in could not be found'.

When I check the install path on my Mac, it looks as though it is in there.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Hi,

did you also start live in rosetta mode if you're on an M1 / M2 mac? That did the trick for me.

    Hi Matthias.

    Sorry, I am a complete novice on Mac. It’s a M2 chip.

How do you start in Rosetta mode?

Did you have the same issue with the KK plugin not showing in the VST folder in Ableton. Like screenshot below?

Here is the Mac VST path

and Ableton preferences if that helps also

    Thanks

    Hi,

yes had the same problem, digged out old projects where I used vst2 versions of komplete, they were missing when I opened it now. I'm now on an M1 Mac, so I had to start in rosetta mode (temporarily) to check the tracks using Kontrol.

To open the Rosetta Version of Ableton check this article:

How to Open Your DAW Using Rosetta

(just google it on the Native Site, sorry can't post links with my profile yet)

Best to save presets of your stuff, than disable rosetta again and load the presets in the au / vst3 version of komplete, at least that's what I did and it worked for me.

    Best, Matthias

Mate, you are an absolute hero...it worked!

All my vst2plugin stuff plays. There are still loads of missing files, but i can manually add these in. It was just the kk stuff that was driving me mad, thank you.

Would there be an issue in me continually running Ableton in Rosetta?

The only reason I ask is that I cant see an option to save a KK preset on mine? I can only see the save preset option on things like the eq for example.

    Hey,

happy to see it works for you 👍

Well basically Rosetta is an emulation layer, so there are some performance losses.

But to avoid future compability problems it's probably best to stick to running native M1 code everywhere without using Rosetta.

See the attached screenshot on how to save a preset in Komplete, after that you should find it in your user-created presets and should be able to load it in again Komplete running without Rosetta. Good Luck 👍

Absolutely brilliant. Thanks so much for taking the time out to respond. I’ll give that a try tonight.

So pleased I haven’t lost all of my tunes. Was panicking!

Jumping in here, I have tried rosetta mode, reinstalling applications, etc. and everything is working except the loops. When I try to access to the loops (Backyard Jams for example), they play in the browser, but when I try to push them to the keyboard (either through Komplete Kontrol or through Ableton live 11) I get one of 2 errors:

If not in Rosetta mode: VST2 -> VST3 conversion error for this device. I thought this was only an M1 chip issue, but i am M2.

If in Rosetta mode: Failed to load plug-in

    Any idea?

    Thank you!

No VST2 -> VST3 ‘migration’ (ie projects made with the VST2 open identically with the VST3) is not just a Mac thing, it’s meant to be part of the VST standards across platforms. For it to work it depends on 2 things, the plugin must support it, and so must the host. Unfortunately Ableton Live is one of the few major hosts that still does not support migration.
