Guitar rig 7 : Switching preset with a hotkey

Hi,

I'm used to press "G" to swap between two presets (one clean and one with distortion) for some songs that have a clean part. I knew how to do it in GR5, but I cannot find it anywhere in GR7, I'm wondering how can I do this.

What I'm talking about, in GR5 looks like this

I really hope this feature has not be deprecated, and I didn't pay for a software that took it away.

Key command control is not available in GR6/7 anymore as it was in GR5. The problem is that when running as a plugin various DAWs handle key commands very differently so the key command feature inside Guitar Rig was not always working well in that context which led to a lot of user confusion and frustration.

You could run Guitar Rig 7 as a plugin in a DAW. Lots of them support "computer keyboard to MIDI" functionality, so this way you can send MIDI messages to Guitar Rig.

    @Dasheng ,

I wasn't aware you could use key commands to control GR5, but I checked and the possibility was indeed there.

I also checked in GR6, and from what I can tell, I only see MIDI learn options, no key command-learn possibilities. A dedicated controller section as in GR5 isn't available and this is also the case for GR7. So the best way forward is to use a MIDI controller to switch presets.

A suggestion from my side: to switch sounds in the same preset I propose you use containers. You add 2 containers to your preset: 1 container includes all the effects/parameters of the distorted sound, the second container contains the effects/parameters of the f.e. vibrato sound. Shared components are put in front of the 1st container. You then assign one macro to the on/off switch of both containers AND (very important), you reverse the polarity of container 2 with the macro configuration. In this way you can toggle between the distorted and the vibrato sounds/containers. This combined with the new Signal Flow functionality of GR7 will give you an excellent overview of what's happening.

I added a screenshot, hope this helps:

    Grtz,

    I see

Sadly I don't have midi controller, I use a usb footswitch that can simulate input, which doesn't help me since the only way I found so far is to have one doing "backward arrow" then enter, and the other one must do the opposite.

The problem is that GR7 load presets a bit slower than GR5, so I can't really use that to switch on the fly.

Would it be another way instead of buying a piece of gear to accomplish that ?

I must say, since I use my GR5 preset, I feel a bit down about the impossibility to use hotkey and I rather use GR5 until I find a way to do something similar in GR7

@Dasheng , what might be an option is to install a virtual MIDI keyboard like https://vmpk.sourceforge.io/ or https://virtual-midi-piano-keyboard.en.lo4d.com/windows You should be able to use this as a MIDI input device for GR7. It's important to open GR7's Preference, go to MIDI and enable the virtual MIDI keyboard as a MIDI input device.

    Thanks for the recommendations.

I didn't success in making any of those option recognized by Guitar Rig 7, unfortunately.

Is there a way we can make suggestions for features ? It would be better to have a functionality directly included in the software, instead of trying to figure a way to manage to do what an older version did.

If you have any other ideas or possible solutions, I'll test them as well.
