Can instruments such as Iconic Bass be located on an external drive?

When I bought Komplete Kontroler and received the free Kontak 14 I attempted to download everything until I realized that my 1 TB internal drive in my Mac mini couldn't handle the volume. Now I want to move all that is not required to be on the system drive to one of my external hard drives. I'm not sure what needs to remain on the system drive and how to relocate that which doesn't.

No worries π Native Access is the hub, so to speak. In it, you can find all your products:

Things like KONTAKT Libraries can easily be stored on an external drive. Doing that is recommended as well due to their sizes.
The default "Content Location" path on Mac is: Macintosh HD > Users > Shared
Move everything NI related that you see in there to your external drive. You will need to relocate already installed products afterwards. It's also probably a good idea to change the "Content Location" path to your external drive - here's how to do that.

Best is to have vst on your system drive SSD if possible

Are all NI instruments considered VST's, for example, Studio Drums, Iconic Bass, etc.?

No, only (standalone) applications like Kontakt, Massive (X), Battery, Guitar Rig 6, ...
Studio Drums (you mean Studio Drummer?) and Iconic Bass (you mean Icon Bass?) are Kontakt libraries.

I'm sorry Monochrome. I've submitted support tickets to get explanations on this issue and have yet to get a response. I appreciate your efforts. I'm unsure if I'm opening the standalone version when I'm looking at what has been installed and what has yet to be installed and if there are updates available, etc. If I open Native Access is that the standalone? If not, are the installations going to the standalone version? I'm hopelessly confused.
