Switch Snapshots With MIDI To Kontakt

As a composer, I use Sibelius, Kontakt 6.7, Complete 13 and some other Kontakt libraries. There are many instruments in Komplete such as Straylight and Pharlight which have hundreds of pre-sets/snapshots. Sometimes I want to use more than one in sequence in the same piece. One obvious way is to assign the different snapshots to different channels.

So my question here is there are way to switch dynamically between snapshots/pre-sets mapped to the same channel? For example, can they be switched with some MIDI commands such as what I did with 'programs' with my other instruments. If doable, what is the 'recommended' approach.

Hi,

what you need, is called Instrument Bank. That is were you put your kontakt-instruments/sounds, which can then be switched by program change messages. Have a look at the old Kontakt -forum, there is some info about that:

I know how program changes work. I'm asking if there is some other way that I can switch between snapshots without having to load the ones I want into slots in an instrument bank. For example, is there some way to use midi automation or assign a loading of a snapshot or a preset to a CC?

I am afraid there is no other way than program changes, if you want midi control. All Kontakt sounds have to be preloaded and organized in the instrument bank, because loading times, depending on the samples, could be high. I too wish there were a better solution (midi access to snapshots).
