Where are you trying to get the preparation folder back to? And what duplicates do you mean?

If you mean the list of folders at the top of the browser you can create a regular playlist called "Preparation", right click it then click "Set as preparation list". When you've done that drag it onto one of the folder slots if you want quick access to it.

As far as I know you can't clear the contents of a folder slot back to "unassigned", so my tidy-up hack is to create a playlist called "not assigned" and drag that over the folder slot you want to clear.

If you mean something else, let us know

Where exactly are you seeing the duplicate tracks? Is it in the main collection or in playlists? Have you tried doing a consistency check on the collection?
