How to overcome refusal to acknolwedge installation folder?

It seems the correct term that should be used is "forbidden" characters.
I edited my earlier post to reflect this.
The earlier posts from others though were referring to characters that should not be used as "special" - which is incorrect. I think what we're trying to say here is that an underscore is not a forbidden character and there should be no issue using them.

Just to add.....
I have used underscores in many applications in many fields, on many servers, hard drives, etc.... with never an issue.
Native Instruments here.... and yes I'm having an issue with maybe 15 Installations that won't resolve due to invalid etc.... but I have hundreds yhat have been fine... installed before, during and after this issue.... some have resolved and worked randomly after a time, others after a few attempts or on a different day, and at times I've even tried I installing to the roots of the HD....
Growth is the one that wouldn't work no matter what for a year.... same reason... seems that it Might randomly now be installed.... without my having noticed....
Rather odd.
I don't know the answer re "_"... in general, or in the case here, as it seems to have randomly defied that as and when it felt like it.

Seems to be a few differences of opinions... but largely "_" is regarded as absolutely fine, and promoted for use in replacement of " " space.... that said, it can sometimes be an issue in websites (historically) and there's potentially an issue in code.... so maybe there's an issue with NI coding that "sometimes" can't handle the "_" randomly, consistently and persistently on some occasions and for some installations.... that it has had and continues to have no issues whatsoever other times (and sometimes eventually let's it install anyway).

All we know right now is that 99 out of a 100 of us - are (presumably) not using underscores and are (presumably) not having issues.
I agree , I used to use special characters in path names myself until I found out why not to use them.
Even if a 1000 programmers knows how to follow best practices and are able to foresee what people might do then that's no guarantee that number 1001 are equally skilled. And alas then some programmers apparently thinks/assumes that you don't use special characters in path names or have a rule that first character can not be a special character - or whatever they think.
Even Windows itself has been seen to have (or used to have ?) certain problems with some path names that only a few intelligently programmed apps was able to offset.
Anyway , it's a far better naming practice to attempt to guard oneself against poor programming practices by not using special characters in path names than to assume that all programmers are equally good at programming and equally good at following best practices.
For the record then I do use special characters in some path names but never for something that is going to be used outside of simple file browsing by Windows Explorer or similar simple file storage and handling or at least not used by more than a few dedicated apps.
Completely correct that e.g. underscore has been used , in particular in dos (and UNIX ?) , never the less then I will still advise against the use of any character in path names that some might comprehend as a special character.

Again - this is not an argument about whether an underscore is "allowed" or not. Nor is it a slight on how you managed to use an underscore for this long and suddenly now - you have issues.
We know nothing else about your system than what you have divulged.
I asked for your input on the errors Native Access was displaying and what you did when an error appeared - and I got nothing.
So - with so little to go on - and a VERY oddball display of underscores (the first time I have ever seen a root folder with an underscore BTW - and I have been on Windows since 1993) - I am hoping you can understand why some of us think this is a bit strange.
You asked for help - this is what we could come up with - based on what you have provided.
If you want to do your thing and use underscores - no one is going to stop you.
But I thought you also might want a solution to your issue - one that BTW is not affecting anyone else on this thread - possibly due to the fact that we use normal folder naming conventions for all our stuff.

I was just responding to the discussion that had gone left and led to others going back and forth about that issue...
Nothing "oddball" about using a selected character that moves it earlier in listing's.... you'll hate the fact I have a gang of document folders starting stuff like "!!!!!_____filename.docx" though 😀

Also... not certain what I haven't provided.... when I realised I gasnt provided something you'd asked for, I I.meduayely provided it, but it appears there's something else I didn't provide you mentioned in your first post? Apologies didn't see n not sure what thst is. I'll check tomorrow when I'm up
