Instrument not recording

Hello,
does it not record the notes you play or enter with the step sequencer? Or does kontakt receive midi and you can't hear anything?

Thanks for your reply Uwe303,
firstly, as I am fairly new to Maschine, I am unsure if kontakt is receiving midi but certainly I am not using the step sequencer and nothing is being recorded

You have the correct pad selected where the sound is loaded, you are in piano mode I guess, you press record and play something and nothing is recorded? Normally that always works, even if you have no pattern created it will be automatically created and notes are being recorded. If you can hear the sound, as you described it while playing the pads, you can record the notes normally. Have you tried to create a new project and load up utopia and try to record it there.

Again. thanks for the reply Uwe303,
I am continuing to try recording the first instrument available in Utopia "Absolute Gen". This time I have nothing else loaded at all
When you state "You have the correct pad selected where the sound is loaded" I am not in piano (keyboard) mode as I get no sound at all. I only get a sound from Utopia when I am in Pad mode.
Also I should say that when I press shift and record in the new project, I only get a very brief (Milliseconds) moment of sound ultimately resulting in nothing being recorded at all. When I press the "events" button there is nothing there either.
Your continued support for me is truly appreciated. I will continue trying to get Utopia to record in Maschine and look forward to hearing from you again.

This is strange indeed.
Utopia is not even one of those instruments which have some keys mapped and some not…
Is this happening only with the first preset? What happens if you chose another preset (always from Utopia)?
In any case events should be recorded anyway… it should have nothing to do with the instrument playing/not playing… it’s Maschine that “internally” records the pads pressed…

Some questions…that also should have nothing to do, since you say it is happening also in a brand new project…but let’s see if we can narrow down the culprit…
How is the MIDI Source set up at Sound level?
And the MIDI Key Mode at Group level?
And what is selected as Default MIDI Input Mode in Maschine Preferences?
Are other instruments recording in the new project in which you are testing?1 -
LostInFoundation thanks for your reply; at sound level it seems to be the same as you have indicated, the MIDI Key Mode at Group level is also off, I have attached a screenshot of what is selected as Default MIDI Input Mode in Maschine Preferences and yes, I can get other instruments to record.

Can you maybe try to open kontakt stand alone and test if you get a sound out there with that preset. You can use maschine in midi mode, just set it in kontakt prefs as midi in device or set up the on screen keyboard and play it with the mouse, must be under view or something like that. The patch you've mentioned should play on all notes a random 303ish sequence.

Thanks for your reply Uwe303.
As I only have Kontact player, will thie still work to use maschine in midi mode, and set it in kontakt prefs as midi in device?

yes this will work

I am unused to opening Kontact and when I open the player see a screen with audio and midi settings how should I proceed?

You just open kontakt, and go to file/options/midi (kontakt 8) then input and set the maschine Ctrl Midi to Port A, press shift + Channel (midi) on your maschine, and hopefully you have a standard preset loaded. Then select another oktave by pressing group button E (C3 to D#4) and press some pads to play some notes. Of course load the instrument before playing notes.
With older kontakt versions it's similar

Helo again.
Uwe303.
Unfortunately I am having a problem
going to file/options/midi (kontakt 8)And have attached a screenshot of what I see once Kontact 8 is open,
I don't see a file menu and clicking on the input doesn't do anything. hopefully you can direct me further..

It's under "Midi" you see it on the left under the "audio" settings tab
