Maschine+ Just purchased to find it’s got obsolete software

So after just dropping £1000 for the MAs+ to find that NI have no intention of updating the unit so it will remain with over 4 years old dated software, how can this be allowed to still be sold. It’s like buying a new Laptop to find it has Windows XP on it.

I would have gone with Akai Mpc had it made clear this was an outdated unit

Maschine+ is still fully supported as far as I know.

And my understanding is that anyone who buys one AFTER 11/06/2024 - is entitled to a free upgrade to Maschine v3.

    See here:

Update paths and grace periods for Maschine v2 to v3 – Native Instruments

Just a matter of getting it updated.

NI have no intention of updating the unit

In fact the opposite is true - updates are coming out this week, and again throughout the year

I find it incredible that so many people these days seem to be obsessed with everything needing an update.

I guess it comes from the ubiquitous smartphone. People get used to their phone apps being updated, and the OS being updated, so they start believing that every other thing also has to have updates every few months/weeks/days/hours or else it's somehow useless.

The unit is designed to do what it says on the box, and if it does that when you turn it on, then it shouldn't matter how "old" the OS is.

    🤐

This → LINK ← was posted in January. I guess you didn't read it.

Latest update HERE was released Jan 2024 (which is not 4 years ago).

Agreed. Turn it on and make something. Update later. Like way later if required.

Cretin, I know we don’t really get along mostly, but here I can honestly say I agree with you. The constant beta everywhere. Good enough to be usable and then we ping updates meanwhile it’s being used/played. In one way it’s great for the immediate possibility to update but at the other hand, nothing is really finished.

4 year old software? This is incorrect! There have been several software updates for M+ since 2021

@Cretin Dilettante I respectfully disagree that the Maschine+ is an "unfinished" product. Like I said, it does what it claims it can do. Any additional features that may be added down the line are bonuses, and should not be expected.

Ditto with my smartphone. When I got it out of the box and began using it, it was fully functional and did not have any "unfinished" aspects to it.

Maybe you're thinking of something specific, but in my tech buying experience (since the 80s) I don't think I've ever bought something that was not finished.

As for the Maschine+ OS needing parity with the Maschine 3 software, NI are doing that. They already told us months ago, when the software was released - and they confirmed with a timeline more recently.

Not sure about "fulfilling its promise" though. It's a standalone device. I'd imagine most people buy it because they don't want to use it with a computer. That's certainly why I bought mine.

FYI Akai don't currently have parity between their software and hardware either.

@PK The DJ let me in my own turn respectfully disagree with you. Due to high amount of highly embarrassing bugs M+ doesnt do what it claims it can do. And what is most important - there are no even promises to fix them.

Btw, comparing to Akai also doesnt look correct due to how NI positions itself :-)

…You've never bought a PC game, have you? Or a console game, for that matter? Games ship completely broken & unfinished all the time. You're really feigning ignorance about this, aren't you?

I feel like some of you guys would lose everything in a samsung-induced house fire and still claim you've never bought anything unfinished, broken, or designed to become obsolete in the near future.

No, I don't play games. I'm a DJ and producer. This thread is about the Maschine+ is it not?

By all means we should push for improvements, but the tech stuff should be purchased with the knowledge and acceptance of what it is now and not what it might/will be.
