i think NI would make more money, if they continue to sell old versions of Traktor.

not Evry One can update or upgrade.

If the company continued to sell old versions - no one would buy anything new and the company would have no incentive to do anything. Long term - that is not good for anyone.

And old versions are no longer supported on various OS versions which is out of anyone’s control.

@freakuency82 If NI (or any other vendor) still would sell old versions they also have to still give some sort of support for it. They would still need to make adjustments to stay compatible with new OS releases. Most software vendors don't sell old versions: You cannot buy Windows 10 anymore, no Photoshop CS6, not Ableton Live 10 anymore.

And nobody is forced to upgrade you can still use your Traktor Pro 2 or Traktor Pro 3 if you desire to you just have to keep the old compatible hardware (and software). Sometimes it works even on newer hardware and software. Traktor Pro 3 was released in 2018 and was sold till 2024, anybody had 6 years to obtain a licence from NI.

And if someone really needs to obtain a Traktor Pro 3 licence: You still buy it "used" from existing users.

I would also add that if a company is selling a product to me - at full price - I am expecting full support. Not just some support .

And in the case of NI - who seem to be bursting at the seams with support issues now - the last thing they need are piles of extra tickets for issues with software released 6 or 10 years ago.

Can't fully agree. There's millions out there who can't afford the newest Mac or PC machine and NI stuff and I couldn't quite believe NI going bankrupt or losing too much because of selling older software.

I've got older hardware (hard to buy stuff 🤔😉) and got Traktor Pro 3 running now. Sound crackle and disappearing bug still came up at first but copied settings file with playlists transferred from old Traktor 2 into the new folder and now it works.

Of course I'd love to have a great paying job and lotsa moaney to spend on Homestudio and DJ gear but as it goes, not motivation and so on is always enough sometimes.

Solution anyways is trying to get a 2nd hand registration number for Traktor 3 and make it work on the machine required. Surely Traktor Pro 4 is also a great program.

The question from the Topic creator was...

How can I buy Traktor Pro 3? And there was an answer after lots non actually relevant to the question but hey...

All good and interesting discussion. 👍🏻

It has already been stated loud and clear - that fact that you cannot afford a new PC etc - really has nothing to do with this.

In that case - you need to ignore these forums, ignore all promo emails and stick with what you have for as long as you can and carry on. There is no need to upgrade. No need to buy anything.

The software industry is a business and unfortunately - their primary directive is to make cool stuff and hopefully make a profit - plain and simple. And the way they do that is to build new products and new tech in a constant, never-ending cycle.

We all can choose to partake in this cycle or not.

But any software company who continues to sell (and then tries to support) a growing portfolio of product that rapidly ages out because the rest of the industry moves on at a lighting pace - like say Apple as a perfect example - is never going to make any profit, will not have time, talent or resource to make new things and will eventually arrive at a very non-profitable (and certain) dead end.

    Hopefully you can understand why.

    Simply not true.

Microsoft still sells old SW like WinXP and Office 2000 and so on. So, NI could sell old versions of SW, if one wants to buy it. Time ago, one guy wanted Guitar Rig 5 and not GR6, because he liked better GR5. He was happy to buy GR5 from me…

Anyway, it is good practice not to buy/install freshly new major version of SW. It is sound to wait a year, or even more, till it becomes more or less stable.

The only thing that is "simply not true" is this portion of your statement above:

"Microsoft still sells old SW like WinXP and Office 2000 and so on".
