I just don't see the point in Kontakt 8.

I just don't see the point in Kontakt 8. It's fully of gimmicks that I don't want, or need. Bloatware because of every more stuff aimed at noobs.
As for resizing… that wasn't seen as something to add until now?
My question is: All VSTs will continue to be backwards compatible, right?

All existing Kontakt instruments "should" be backwards compatible but never guaranteed. Depends on the age of the library, existing vendor support etc.
And no existing "raster" based instrument will scale properly. Only a few select VERY recent NI instruments and of course the new stuff that ships with K8 will scale properly - but older items will be blurry as usual if taken to extremes with UI scaling.
