After installing KK S49 MKII no sound in Cubase 13

Hi Guys,

No sound from midi controller;

History: I tried a Yamaha Genos first. But this never worked. There was midi activity but no sound. So I bought me a Komplete Kontroller MKII 49 and installing all the needed things as shown in the native youtube video.

Now there is contact with the keyboard and Cubase. So I even can use mixer and I see the selected instrument on the screen of my s49.

However.. still i’m hearing no sound when touching the keyboard!!  …. I already have Native Komplete for a year and I still can not use it. Very frustrating.

When I had connected the Genos on midi I contacted Steinberg, but every time they closed the ticket because they are to busy.

Now after connecting the mkII I hoped it would solve the problem. But still no sound. I could again contact Steinberg, but maybe you have an idea.

(Maybe one thing to mention and maybe important; I cannot manage to connect the keyboard straight to the mac, because I have no ports left. There are 4 usb c ports which I really need for other hardware. So the connection at this moment is thru a hub, although I tried one port to check it out and even that did not work).

So maybe it’s just a small issue, but big for me cause I still can not use my native library instruments.

I would be Great full if you see the problem.

Jack

    Hello, please check if:

Did you installed and running all drivers and services (required for host integration)?

Did you choose the correct Midi driver in Cubase?

    EDIT:

I have the same combination (Cubase + S49 MKII) and it works as a charm. But on Windows (i saw now that you are on Mac)… So, the (Windows) services mentioned above probably doesn't apply to you.

    In Cubase:

In Komplete Kontrol S-Series you choose the "Komplete Kontrol DAW" driver

In Midi Port Setup activate all drivers you want to use

On individual tracks choose either "All Midi Inputs", either "Komplete Kontrol-1" (but not the KK-DAW!)

Note: Because some plugins are transmitting only to Midi Channel 1 and unless you need a specific midi routing, it is best to set your Midi channels to "Any".

    Hi Sunborn,

    Thank you for your information.

As far your print screens settings I use the exact settings, so this is good.

tOn my controller I can also use the menu, play etc. he sees the channels and instruments on the screen etc. So the connection seems okay.

The only problem is that the keyboard keys reproduce no sound, even if the track is in monitor mode. Of course I selected an instrument in Komplete control, also tried Kontakt.. same problem, and even with Halion synth in Cubase.. no sound.

I don,t understand your first question about installing drivers and services?? But maybe that's the problem. Do you know which drivers I need and where I can find them?

    Thanks in advance

    Jack

    Hello,

When you install Komplete Kontrol, through Native Access, it automatically installs all the necessary drivers too, however i am not sure what exactly is installed on Mac. Maybe @Kymeia can provide a better assistant for Mac.

Apart of those, it seems that your problem (no sound) has to do with Audio, not with Midi!
    What is your audio interface?

    Thanks Sunborn,

So I think the drivers are already installed.

I have an Arturia Audiofuse Studio interface. Could it be that I have to make a sort if connection herefore??

If it is already selected in Cubase as your default audio device, then it should work!
If you load any other plugin in Cubase and you do have sound, then the problem is different.
But, it you do not have sound on any plugin, then check your Cubase audio settings and add the Arturia as your default audio.

If all the above are correctly done, then i don't know… make some screenshots of your settings, maybe i can understand better what is going on, or wait for an answer from a Mac user… :-)

    Thank you,

The stereo output is selected to the audio interface. So also these settings are right. The strange thing is, when I hit the digital keyboard (for example the pianokeys in Halion) with my mouse, I hear sound. But touching the hardware keyboard I hear nothing. You should (I think) also see the keys reacting on the Halion keys when pressing the Komplete. But this is also not the case.

But thanks for your time again! Greetings. Jack

ok, but still i don't see any audio settings… :-)
"stereo output" means nothing, is just a description

please post your "Audio System" (from Studio setup settings)

    and your "Audio connections"

…especially the Out section! Is anything assigned there? should be at least one output channel enabled!

…add please, for your own protection, do not post your serial numbers online!
    i removed the image…

ugh… this is turning to a real puzzle 😐️
i don't have other suggestions for now, sorry 😔

Thank you! Yes, it's really strange because it should be plug and play. The most strange thing is that I hear audio when I touch my mouse on the Komplete interface. Also can I use the keyboard knobs etc. everything works. But thanks again for your efforts!!

@Jack Haveman Sorry I'm stumbling on your post so late after. If you open Komplete Kontrol in standalone and load an instrument, do you hear sound when you play a key?

Still in Komplete Kontrol in standalone, can you select the keyboard as a MIDI input (Preferences → MIDI → Input)?

We've seen similar cases where this fixed it:

    1. Power the keyboard off
    2. Open the Audio & MIDI setup found in Applications → Utilities on your Mac.
    3. Go to Window, choose Show MIDI Studio
    4. Delete the Komplete Kontrol keyboard entry.
    5. Power the keyboard back on.

Open the Komplete Kontrol standalone app and see if it now works.
