What's in "Hardware Connection Service" 1.5.5?
It showed up in the "updates" section of Native Access, but I can't find what's in it, why I would need it, or what do I need to do AFTER installing it.
Can anybody help document it?
Thanks in advance!

This is required software for the MK3 keyboard to function.
The change-log should be visible, but in case that it is not, it is here:
ADDED: updated NKS artwork for various Spitfire products.
ADDED: improved fine adjustment of volume and pan increments on Mixer page (hold SHIFT to adjust).
FIXED: user interface would freeze if scrolling Browser presets too quickly.
FIXED: a pop-up message crashing Komplete Kontrol 3 on startup.
FIXED: user interface misaligned in certain Settings menus.
FIXED: track name displays incorrectly in Cubase after keyboard reconnects.
FIXED: Mixer page volume faders calibration in Cubase.
FIXED: issue causing older versions of the Connection Service to persist running even after updating.
There is also a firmware update for the keyboard in tandem.

Thanks @Matthew_NI , much appreciated!

Is a firmware update required if the hardware connection service is updated? ie Is the hardware service version tied to the keyboard firmware version?
Also, is it possible to elaborate more on what the hardware service is responsible for? I'm curious how much of what is shown on the keyboard display is controlled by the firmware and how much is controlled by the hardware connection service.

Good question @reffahcs !
And I'd like to know if it is possible to get an automatic info on wether an update for the Keyboard is available via Native Access. Would be convenient 😎
Happy wintertime everyone 🐿️

Is there any way to roll back this update on my Kontrol S61 Mk3 to the previous version of Hardware Connection Service? This new version is just too buggy for use with Logic Pro. Many thanks.

Yes, both are required. If none or only one is updated, you may experience stability issues.
Firmware is what runs on the keyboard. The Connection Service is the protocol by which the keyboard communicates with the computer it is connected to.

What bugs are you seeing? A majority of our users are on Logic Pro and we're not seeing any issues ourselves, or reported via customer care.

@Matthew_NI , I have a few questions about Logic integration. Pressing DAW button shows mixer and so on, understandable.
But what about when keyboard is in midi mode or plugin mode (Kontakt), what works with Logic then? Buttons? Transport? 4D pot to move timeline and change tracks? I have read the manual and it’s not clear to me.
I’m warming up to the keyboard after playing with it in local music shop and once the Play Assist and MIDI template editing are executed in hardware , I will most likely purchase one. 👍
Any chance for 37 keys model in the future?

The DAW Control is entirely separate to the plug-in you are connected to. It works when connected to Logic, period.

Ok, maybe I haven’t asked in a clear way, sorry.
Let’s say I’m in Logic, on a track which contains a third party plugin , so kontrol keyboard is in midi mode. Do transport and other buttons (undo/redo, etc.) still control Logic or do I need to press DAW button for them to work with Logic?
what about if I’m on a track with Kontakt (plugin mode or browser mode) Does 4D pot control Logic timeline or does it control Kontakt? Do transport buttons still control Logic or not? Or only when DAW mode is selected?
Thank you in advance for your kind help.

When a session containing software instruments is open, the DAW function is not available. I can load Komplete Kontrol, but as soon as I press DAW the screen freezes. Regardless of the bugs, the keyboard still transmits, and I can still play software instruments. However, all other connected functionality stops. The previous version of the software and firmware did not do that. The attached image shows My S61 Mk3 having loaded Komplete Kontrol, then loaded an instrument, then pressed the DAW button. Since the previous version(s) worked, and this one doesn't - is there a way to roll back to the previous versions?

Perhaps I did not explain in a clear way.
The keyboard is integrated with, and controls Logic Pro, always.
It is separate from the plug-in integration.
It works always, regardless of what plug-in you have selected.
You only need to press DAW if you want the Logic Pro mixer to appear on your keyboard screen.

Are you on an Apple M1 or M2 system?

Yes, M1 Max, OS X 14.1.1. According to Native Access, all NI applications are updated to the latest version. Full disk access allowed for all relevant applications. I take it, rolling back isn't an option then?
Hardware Overview:
Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro18,2
Model Number: Z150001NKKS/A
Chip: Apple M1 Max
Total Number of Cores: 10 (8 performance and 2 efficiency)

System Firmware Version: 10151.41.12
OS Loader Version: 10151.41.12
Activation Lock Status: Disabled

Rolling back is not an easy process - and I also don't think it will solve the issue, so I'm hesitant to get into that. The image you suggest is symptomatic of the keyboard not fully connecting, and I suspect another cause, but let's figure it out!
It's worth triple checking you have the latest on-device firmware, as well as the latest NI Hardware Connection Service, Komplete Kontrol and Kontakt 7 (if you own Kontakt 7) via Native Access 2.
Since you're on an M1 system, it's also possible you're seeing an inherent USB-C issue that's typically solved by plugging into a USB-C hub instead of direct in. That can be one cause of failure to connect.
Also, when you open Logic, with the keyboard plugged in, to navigate here and click Rebuild Defaults
