Ideal Traktor Music Library Size ?

I am having a LOT of issues with Traktor lagging…especially when searching my music.

With storage being so cheap now, I generally keep all my music on my internal SSD drive. The library is now sitting around 750GB.

Last I remember Traktor working well was when my library was when it was under 500GB.

Is there an ideal size for the music library that Traktor can handle?

    Heyo!

There's no magic number, but generally, keeping your Traktor library under 1TB is a good guideline for smoother performance. Once you go beyond that, you're more likely to encounter lag, especially when searching or browsing.

I could suggest you follow the tips below to improve your performance.

Clean Up: Remove duplicates, unused tracks, and old versions.

External Drive: Consider moving part of your library to an external SSD.

Active Playlists: Create smaller, focused playlists for your current sets.

Hmm… I am at around 750GB, and it just keeps growing (the new subscription service I am on likes to give me ALL the remixes… my old one only gave me radio/explicit edits, not remixes). I will likely be at 1tb within two years at the rate songs are added.

My Traktor install is extremely sluggish. Searching takes forever, the interface constantly freezes. The irony is I tested a different software (that had video) on this laptop before resetting it (a few months ago) and it ran smooth. So not sure what Traktor is not liking. I am in the process of resetting windows 11 again (this time I upgraded to pro to see if the additional features may help) but if this continues, I am going to be forced to consider a different software, which would suck as I have used traktor since going digital…

I have done all the recommendations provided, my laptop is a Dell G15 series gaming unit (i5/16GB ram) and I only use SSD for music and OS.

Testing on my desktop, which is a Lenovo Legend Gaming unit (17/32GB Ram) and the interface still freezes when loading tracks and searching, but I will admit the search function is faster on the desktop.

Is there anything that I could do to help the program run smoother?

I have reloaded traktor 4. I imported the Library, but cancelled the analyzation of all the music. Everything worked pretty good. There is the usual jitter (which is annoying) when loading a track, but searches and everything worked well.

I analyzed a few thousand songs, and things started to act up. No where near as bad as it was, but I have also only analyzed a fraction of the music.

Should the entire music collection be analyzed, or should we only analyze them as we load? I have always analyzed the music, which literally takes days to complete, but I am beginning to wonder if this may be my issue?
