Hardware Freeze - NIHostIntegrationAgent Service
This topic was brought up earlier this month (link below) and nobody responded. Piggybacking off that post and adding more Tags for visibility. Hardware freezes are a recurring theme.
NIHostIntegrationAgent service stops running - hardware freezes
- Windows 11
- Maschine 3.1.1 (but problem also existed in version 2x, 3, 3.1)
- USB directly into laptop and through the hub doesn't matter - problem persists (using original NI USB cords, one that came with MK3 and one that came with M32)
- Quantum ES interface and Maschine MK3 interface both impacted
- Maschine software running as administrator
- NIHostIntegrationAgent service startup type = Automatic
There is no action that causes the service to stop. If it's on it will go off after a minute or two. Restarting the service does not help (meaning it doesn't fix the hardware after it is frozen). Restarting the laptop starts the same cycle all over again.
Apologies if I'm missing something really obvious on this one.

Hello,
have you checked the event log. You could also try to run "sfc scannow" like described here:

using original NI USB cords, one that came with MK3 and one that came with M32
Is this the Maschine MK3 or are you having two N.I. keyboards attached ? If so then that is not supported , at least not at the moment.
Is this also happening if only having one N.I. device attached at a time ?
Else then have you tried updating USB drivers or switching to latest supplied by computer manufacturer ? Or have you tried using an USB hub just to see if it makes any difference ?

Hi @PoorFellow, not sure I follow the first part of the question. I mentioned the original USB cords to state that I wasn't using after market USB's to connect. I tried with the original MK3 cord (plugged into a hub, then plugged directly into my laptop). When that didn't work, I swapped out that cord and tried with the cord that came with my M32, also didn't work.
I guess I can look for USB drivers… But if this was the case, wouldn't other usb connections also be having problems? (Everything else still works, it's just the MK3 that is freezing…. although I haven't checked the M32 yet but I suspect the problem would persist since it would also need the NIHostIntegrationAgent service to run correctly).

Sorry , just me needing to be sure that there were not something left out.

I just wanted to be sure that changing or updating connection didn't help.
You should probably just contact N.I. Komplete Kontrol Support or N.I. Maschine Support depending on how you comprehend the problem.
In case that you need guidance contacting support : Please read : how to get support !

Appreciate the attention. I opened a ticket last night. Waiting on a response. I'll post the resolution in this string as well.

Thank you for this. I ran 'sfc /scannow' and Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and repaired them (so I didn't run DISM). I do not know how to read through the log files (I'll research that more offline) but the problem still persists with regard to the NIHostIntegrationAgent service shutting down on its own. I have a ticket open with NI support, I'll see what happens with that.

On windows 11 you right click on the start button and there you should be able to open the event log.

Hi @Jeremy_NI, I don’t have anything additionally installed other than ‘stock’ Windows virus and threat scanners/firewall. No third party antivirus apps.
I did a clean install of Windows 11 that left out all the bloat. I’m not even signed into a Microsoft account on this box.
I haven’t changed anything about my system either. Not sure if a regular Windows update caused the problem. (I use Linux for everything except for music so I pay less attention sometimes).0 -
HAve you tried to plug the MK3 into another USB socket on your computer? Wondering if this could be related to USB powering issues.

I have a Framework laptop (13 inch) that has 'expansion cards' for ports. I had an extra USB-A card here. I swapped out the one I had been using for the other, and…. so far, the Maschine MK3 has remained connected and the NIHostIntegrationAgent has not shut down.
For the moment I think your idea is accurate and may have been the route of the problem.
Shout out to @6xes who had a similar idea in a different thread.
I appreciate everyone's input. I feel like every time I'm in the forums saying something is broken there is always an easy fix (or it's just me missing something obvious). Thanks for the help!

@Ahdee did you manage to make the Agent up and running again?
@Jeremy_NI lately a lot more people is having this issue with agents stopping running, or even getting disabled (surely it is the suggestion I give the most in the last month). Is NI investigating on the issue? I suspect something is changed on NI side
