Ask me anything: X1 MK3

Wow thats a lot of questions, let me try to get into it one by one.
- We chose 4 cue points as our research has show that 4 or less hotcues are most commonly used by our users. But we added options to access cuepoints 5-8 on the shift layer. That said, we want to listen to our users on this and see if there are any patterns how DJs would like to customize their X1 MK3 and then add these customization options to be easily accessible in the new X1 MK3 preferences.
- We tweaked the contrast between dim and on state to a maximum here exactly for this daylight usecase. With some controllers it is difficult to differentiate if a button is on or off in daylight. Here we tried to keep the dim state dark but readible enough and the on state as bright as possible. Also the black buttons help here as they do not catch the light as much as a bright button and the black surface gives more contrast to a brightly backlit surface.
- Daylight mode for the displays is not part of the initial release but if it turns out to be a highly requested feature, i would not rule it out to come to the X1 at some point.
- We decided for multiple small screens to allow us to give contextual information as close to the actual controls as possible.
- So far you will be able to see the track infos, track progress, assigned deck, loop size, and remaining time on the track displays. If you prefer to see elapsed time instead of remaining or if you prefer to see a big loop size and just have the progress bar as track position indicator, you can easily tweak this from the new preferences. As with the points above, nothing is holding us back from offering more options here over time if the community will as for it. What kind of information would be most important for you to see?
- The aluminum stands have been discontinued for a while because we got the feedback that users didnt like them too much as they added significant weight (and sharp corners) to the product when transporting. The bag in the video was an early prototype so the stability has been further improved on that one and we hope to be able to release it soon as well.
- We call controllers like the X1, F1 and Z1 modular as you can assemble them like modules to build your complete setup or to add a module like the X1 to an already existing setup in between mixer and turntables or CDJs.
- The mixer mode has been integrated based on user feedback. In research we have learned, that a lot of users are downloading mixer layouts for their X1 MK1s and MK2s. To make this more accessible to everybody without the need to understand how our controller manager works, we added this mapping to be part of the default mapping. As with all points above, nothing stops us on further developing these mappings and adding controls if needed.
- An audio interface has not been added due to the fact that X1 is mainly used in setups where an audio interface is already in place and the X1 MK1 and MK2 mixer mapping scenarios that we have seen have more been in the context of a fun afterhour or casually listening to music in a park. Here the main audio would be coming out of the laptop or speakers connected to the laptop without the need to prelisten. Another scenario was was set preparation scenario on the go where DJs want to test some mixes while e.g. on the train. Here there is also no audio interface needed as the DJ would only have headphones connected for listening to their testmixes. And the last reason was cost. We didnt want to have all users of the X1 MK3 to pay for a feature which only a small fraction of users will be making use off as the X1 mixer usecase is afteral still a small side usecase compared to its main Playback, Browse and FX focus.
- USB hub is 2.0

In MIDI mode the displays are off. Only the top center display indicates that you switched to MIDI mode.

Since, from what i could gather, the LED's can be addressed separately, it should be possible to use them as volume meters for two decks.

After purchasing the x1 mk3
i can’t find a function to switch the screen into browser mode (this was done by pressing the middle rotary on the mk2). As I am using x4 decks parallel, not being able to do this is very frustrating.
Also the controller editor doesn’t have the X1 mk3 in the drop down??

@Anians : Can't say about the controller editor, but the browser view will be mappable.

I think NI is falling victim to itself, NOT everything needs upgrading . . . there's a reason why the majority of us still own Technics 1200, Leave the kontrollers alone, we have build muscle memory on those 😡

This is a new controller, with a different layout that now cannot be redesigned. You will need new muscle memory for this one either way. If you use Technics 1200, good for you. I don't own those, and i would not presume to know what gear the majority of Traktor users actually employ.

Then keep using the mk2. Buy a used one when you you need more. This seems like a non-issue.

So... you are targeting people who come from the MKI? the ones who don't upgrade for 15 years, and you completly said goodbye to your MKII clients who did upgrade?! Do you really think you have so many MKI clients that don't buy nothing from you in 15 years, are gonna make your only sales revenue now? No MKII user is gonna risk having to relearn all their muscle memory just because you did a poor desing.
"...as it is more in line with our other DJ controllers": what other DJ controllers have a MASSIVE SYNC button the size of the play button?! What other DJ controllers have a bigger SYNC button than a CUE button? please show me ONE! just ONE! controller with a SYNC button bigger than the CUE button, I dare you.
"The touchstrip was a great feature but we observed some critical situations where it was not reliable enough from our perspective.": so instead of fixing it, you completely delete it from the layout, and remove the expression effects capability?
I'm so sorry, you've completely missed the mark on what could have been an amazing product. And I do advise you, if you wanna keep what little customers you still have, to do a surely needed re-hire on your team.
A very disappointed customer.

Just because the cue and play button are different form mk2, does not mean they "completly said goodbye to your MKII clients"
A bit of an overstatement ;-)
And most controllers do have cue/play above each other. But yes, mostly at a similar size.

- Will X1 MK3 screens also flicker on AMD drivers?
- When is the overmapping coming?

As a traktor user for more than 10 years I am now on the edge to turn over to other brands as I am looking to go standalone. I played with pioneer, used recordbox, etc. but I still love Traktor. For me the best DJ software there is. It is nice to see there is a new controller, but it is not for me and I don't understand why you not making a serious all in one device with the technology of today (look what Denon did)?
Or maybe this X1 is the first device before the big announcement of the all in one 4 deck standalone unit (like a Denon Prime) and standalone players from NI. If we see this, than the game has changed.
The X1 seems a nice product and would probably work very well, just don't understand the Sync button choose.
I hope this is the first product of a serie of new products, including professional game changers on the market. In studio we use a lot of NI products, but on the road it is a different story. Would like to see that change.

Unless SHIFT+LOOP has been set to adjust KEY (in preferences), it should have the MOVE command (when turning) and toggle LOOP ACTIVE (when pressing).
WiresGroup { enabled: module.shift Wire { from: "%surface%.loop"; to: "loop.move"; enabled: loopShiftAction == beatjump_loop } Wire { from: "%surface%.loop"; to: "key_control.coarse"; enabled: loopShiftAction == key_adjust } }
