Audible Preview when Clicking and Moving Notes

Product Team Posts: 60 mod
edited November 2024 in Sequencer & Pattern Editor

As a user,

I want to be able to hear an audible preview when I click on a MIDI note event, as well as hearing a live preview of a note (or a selection of notes) when moving them across the Piano Roll

in order to

confirm that my selection is correct and anticipate the result after moving without needing to play back the project.

This feature includes the ability to manually enable / disable the preview and leave it a user choice of when this is needed / helpful or not.

When you say "across" the Piano Roll. Do you also mean up and down? Want the ability to move a note/group of notes via +/- semitones and +/- octaves via the MK3 controller as well as software. Plus also add keyboard shortcuts to move notes.

Yes, if the preview triggers sideways / while nudging it would become extremely annoying.

The controllers already do both; semitones are also already CMD+Up/Down on the SW but having a new key-command for octaves would be sweet as every other SW I ever used has it.

I didn't explain myself clearly enough. I meant being able to select a group of notes (contiguous &/or non-contiguous), not just all or one - and move them together on the HW. Is that possible to do already? If so, how?

Yes, from the HW: in the Event Menu, toggle "Select" and you're able to select groups of notes with the knobs under the right screen for example, Grid is taken into account so in some scenarios you might need to adjust it or turn it off. The selection functionality is kind of the same as clicking with your mouse in one corner and dragging a rectangle to the opposite corner to select a rectangle selection, as such:

The HW disadvantage beyond take a ton more time is that there no Shift to select multiple notes or Groups of notes.

If you have current functionality questions feel free to ask on the regular forum.

    can we get predetermined “patterns”

For drawing in velocity curves for example a “Slope” type pattern. A drag and click and color option would be nice also.

If this is implemented, it's imperative that the feature have an on/off toggle, in preferences or elsewhere. Could be on by default, as long as those of us doing live looping and performances don't have to hear that.

Or better yet… allow it to be routed to the CUE channel, so you can hear it in your booth but not the audience!

    Hi all,

It should also be possible to hear a note when selecting it in Event mode on the hardware so it will also be accessible for blind users who use the NI Accessibility Helper and can't use the Maschine 3 software.

    Thanks, Amber
