hey all, just to clear it up: whether it is intel or M1, it does not really matter. The OS is what to look out for. If you have macOS 10.15 or higher, the AUDIO 2 / 4 / 8 DJ, TRAKTOR AUDIO 2 MK1, and TRAKTOR S2 / S4 / X1 MK1, will not be compatible.
The workaround, as @Stevan previously mentioned, is to downgrade to macOS 10.14 or below. Even then, there is a workaround involved:
Operation of NI Legacy Hardware Devices on macOS 10.12 - 10.14
please note that this is only that, a workaround. We can't offer official support for these legacy devices from 10.12 onward. The workaround tends to work 99% of the time, but we can't guarantee the results 100% of the time. We can guarantee, however, that macOS 10.15 and onward, these devices will not work.
Going back to the issue of the processors, if you have an M1/M1 Pro/Max processor: downgrading to macOS 10.14 or below is impossible.
I wish we had better news and hope this clears up some confusion around the situation. The sad truth is, however, that the situation is largely out of our (NI's) control, and we wish there was more we can do.

Install Mojave, apple has removed 32 bit drivers with Catalina.

While it's true 32bit apps and drivers are not supported in Catalina... this should have no impact on the Kontrol X1 (or Z1 or F1) as their drivers are part of Traktor and not separate drivers.
I have no issues running the Kontrol X1, F1 and Z1 on my MacBook running macOS 12.3 (Monterey)

Do the lights on the X1 light up when you connect it to the Mac?

Hi Adman,
which MAC are you using? M1 or Intel?
I have Monterey and trying to install X1 MK1 drivers since a few days without any luck (even in low security mode, allowing any program to install etc...) Thank you,
Jens

I have done this to fix this issue.

Hi Kdupkid,
you are on Intel Mac I assume?
Thank you,
Jens

You don't need to install drivers. The drivers are built into Traktor 3 app. Open Native Access, make sure you have the latest version of Traktor installed. Connect the X1 and launch Traktor 3.
Now open the prefs and you'll see that the X1 is listed in the left column at the bottom.

Nope, unfortunately doesn't work like that on M1 Macs and with the X1 MK1, but happy to try something else if you have another idea? Thank you!

Not good enough, make some 64 bit drivers. For such a massive company that you are now this should be easy, also due to environmental issues this should be a priority

New Macbooks with M1 cannot have their OS downgraded.
