Maschine 2 Software Update / Installation Problems - Windows 10

Howdy.

I downloaded Native Access today and tried to update my Maschine 2 software.

The software is downloaded and the installer runs and says that the software has been successfully installed.

I can't locate the program exe in the start menu, and I can't open .mxprj files.

I then tried to install the Machine 2 software (for the first time) on another computer (also Windows 10) in my studio. The same thing is happening.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheerio,

Kristen.

Do you see Maschine 2 under Windows Software as installed?

Do you have a Maschine Folder somwhere under c:\\program files\native Instruments ?

If yes and it does not work, try to re-install via Native Access

    Thanks LXNDR_BE

Maschine 2 isn't showing up in the list of installed programs on either computer.

C:\Program Files\Native Instruments contains only folders for drivers, plugins, controller editor and native access.

Is there any merit in uninstalling unwanted drivers?

Check in Native Access preferences where is the installation path for Applications set up. Once you know the folder where it gets installed, go there in file explorer and check for exe

    Thanks @LostInFoundation

The Application Location is C:\Program Files\Native Instruments.

There's no Maschine exe in there.

I would have thought that my .mxprj files would open if the software had been successfully installed on my computer. That isn't happening.

Go in Windows Apps Manager, check if their Native Instruments Maschine 2 is listed. If it’s not there, it should not be installed on the computer.

What does NA says beside Maschine now? Installed? Locate? Repair?

    @LostInFoundation

Nope, Maschine 2 is not in the Apps and Features list - Just controller editor, drivers and Native Access.

The button below Mashine 2 in Native Access displays 'Install' on both computers.

    Oh. Ok…

    So…push it ☺️

Bahaha. Thanks for that tip @LostInFoundation.

When I click the install button in Native Access, it downloads, says it's installing (only for a minute or two, then says it has been installed successfully but nothing changes.

No Maschine 2 program listed in Windows Apps and Features

No Maschine 2 exe in 'program files' folder

Not able to open .mxprj files

    Hey again everyone.

To add to the list of programs that won't update on my original computer or install on my new computer

    • Komplete Kontrol
    • Reactor 6 Player
    • Kontact 6 Player

As per my issue with Maschine 2 software update/install, the programs above also download, start installing, say that installation has been successful but no installation has occurred.

All these programs still sit in Native Access with the 'Install' button below their icon.

Not listed in Windows Apps and Features

Not shown in 'program files' folder

This is a bit of a bummer as I can't use my hardware/software at all.

Any help, even long shots, would be appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Kristen

Unluckily Native Access has a series of problems in the latest versions they are working on.

Have a look at these articles to see if something helps with your case

Probably the one about uninstalling with NI Uninstall RegTool could be useful:

    https://support.native-instruments.com/hc/en-us/articles/115003509269-Fixing-Software-Update-Installation-Issues-Windows-

If nothing in Jeremy’s thread helps, I would try installing a previous correctly working version of NA:

    Hey @LostInFoundation.

Thanks heaps for your help on this - unfortunately still no luck.

I have contacted support and raised a ticket.

For anyone following along, here is what I have tried with no results:

    • Uninstalled all NI products through Win10 add/remove programs
    • Used NI Unistall Regtool to remove all NI products
    • Restarted PC
    • Installed Native Access 1
    • Installed Maschine 2 (2.16.1)

On the 'installed products' tab, Native Access 1 shows the following info:

    Maschine 2

    0.0.0 286MB

    Full Version

When I click to show the 'installation path' it is blank.

    • No Maschine 2 folder or .exe in program files
    • Can't open .mxprj files
    • No listing of Maschine 2 in Apps and Features

    Now I need some pizza.

That really sounds weird, seems like NA has no write-access to c:\\program files.

Maybe try to reinstall NI Access 2 but with an "Administrator", so not a User with Adminlogin PopUp.

The Installationpaths should be standard then again - then try reinstall Maschine 2 also from that Administrator-Account.

I have problems installing NA2 as NON-Admin on my system (Win 10) too, only works properly if I switch to a Adminaccount.

    Hope that helps

Question, how many installations of Maschine you have in total? Because only 3 computers are alowed, so maybe, if somewhere 3 computers are listed for your account at NI, the NA refuses to install another copy - but there should be some kind of warning or popup somewhere.

Thanks for your help @LXNDR_BE. I really do appreciate you taking the time.

My account is an Administrator account, but after I wiped everything a restarted I right clicked on the install exe and clicked and 'run as administrator'.

After NA2 was installed I tried to install Maschine 2 again with no luck - same result as before.

Regarding how many instances of Maschine are installed - I couldn't say for sure - I've had a few computers over the years and I can't be sure that I removed the software before the hard drives were bashed apart with a hammer. I haven't seen any warnings though.

    Sad face.

Maybe it get's blocked by windows, you can try this https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/add-an-exclusion-to-windows-security-811816c0-4dfd-af4a-47e4-c301afe13b26#ID0EBF=Windows_10

I guess you already tried to start na as admin?

    Thanks @Uwe303 - That's a pretty good idea.

I added the following processes as exclusions:

    • Native Access.exe
    • NIHardwareAccesibilityHelper.exe
    • NIHardwareService.exe
    • NIHostIntegrationAgent.exe

Then restarted, ran NA2 as administrator.

Maschine downloads, installs, says 'installation successful':

    • Maschine 2 listed in in NA2 with 'Install' on the button below
    • No Maschine 2 folder or .exe in program files
    • Can't open .mxprj files
    • No listing of Maschine 2 in Apps and Features

I contemplated upgrading to Win11, but the architecture apps I run on this machine are reported to have issues with 11. I can't risk it.
