M+ with power bank

Yo! I know nothing abt stuff like this so I am asking you peeps. I don’t remember anymore if the power bank and ripcord I have is enough to power my Maschine+ Since I haven’t had to actually use this stuff. Can anyone just tell me if my power bank and ripcord is OK to use with my M+? Posted images with specs.

Your Ripcord has 0.6A of output and the M+ requires 2.66 amps, that is quite a huge difference; people have claimed it works with issues but I def do not advise doing that.

The cheapest solution is to buy a power bank with USB-C out and with PD Power Delivery + a 15V PD cable. PD is a technology where the cable itself has a chip that tells the power bank what voltage to use. You can get both for around 50$-80$, depends... But you still have to check the power bank output specs and make sure it's capable of reaching the specs NI recommends.

The alternative is buying a power bank with DC Out, those are are usually between 120$ and 200$+ and tend to be thicker.

Here's @AlexBuga 's solution, he's using an extension cable instead of a direct 15V PD cable, it's a bit more expensive but 5.5x2.5mm 15v cables are sort of hard to find so it might be the fastest solution

I just recently got a M+ and so I had to go power bank shopping and I found a great setup (I can jam on the battery for about 5 hours straight). We need to talk about the theory of power requirements first though. Using the water analogy for electricity, voltage acts like pressure, and amperage acts like the flow rate. Power (measured in Watts) is Voltage x Amperage. So according to the Maschine docs, the device needs approximately 39.9 watts (15V x 2.66A). You may be able to find stuff that’s rated for lower and it still works but that generally isn’t a good idea.

Certain circuits require a specific voltage for them to trigger and operate properly, whereas a circuit only draws as much current (amperage) as it needs which is why the docs specify 2.66 amps but also say that more is better. 2.66 amps is optimal but could theoretically work for lower amperage but isn’t designed to. My guess is that things like the CPU operate at a lower frequency when the amperage is low, so you may be able to get the device to turn on and work but it may be operating a lot slower than normal.

That will probably get the device to turn on and it may seem to work normally but I personally wouldn’t use that. See my post above for the equipment I use and why I chose those items specifically.

In short, your device is only providing 0.6 amps whereas Maschine specifies 2.66 amps. The device may still operate because you’re providing 15V, but it’s not gonna have a whole lot of “juice” to do things like power the CPU efficiently, screens, etc.

Yes. The USB of your power bank delivers normal USB power, just like a computer so it's safe for any USB device, it wont fast charge tho.

USB was never meant to power a full computer (or M+) hence why we need USB-C / PD for that.

That looks like a 20V PD Cable, are you sure that's safe?? Doubt it!

I wouldn't go betting the M+ has an overvoltage protection circuit 😬

Have a look here and you can see the differences between various PD types and the power they can supply. Obviously you need 15V.

Ok it's more clear, i will get an eye on the related thread you mentionned.i'm honestly totally lost on the exact choice of powerBank to do without doing any damages.

NI Support recommandations is yet pretty clear : (Power Maschine+ is possible with power bank : 15v, at at least 2,66A) but it sounds that it's very complicated to find powerBank fullfiling exactly that conditions.
