All iZotope 32-bit installers broken on Windows 11 25H2 — RX 11, Insight 2, Product Portal fail

Hi everyone,

I just set up a fresh system and cannot install any iZotope product that uses a 32-bit BitRock installer. Meanwhile, Ozone 12 and all NI products install perfectly.

WHAT FAILS:

RX 11 Audio Editor Standard v11.4.0 — "Installation failed" in Native Access
Insight 2 v2.6.0 — same
iZotope Product Portal v1.4.9 — crashes on launch

WHAT WORKS:

Ozone 12 Advanced — installs and runs perfectly
Kontakt 8, Guitar Rig 7, Battery 4 — all fine

THE ERROR:
When I run the standalone .exe installers, I get:
"Unknown tag <stringParameter> at line 205 in file [path]/project.xml"

Running with --mode unattended gets further but hits:
"Unknown tag <setInstallerVariable> at line 1915 in project.xml"

Running with --mode text --debuglevel 4 shows installerVersion 24.7.0 in the debug dump.

THE PATTERN:

Every failing installer is a 32-bit PE executable (BitRock InstallBuilder)
Ozone 12's installer is 64-bit — works fine
NI products use MSI installers — work fine
Only 32-bit BitRock installers are affected

WHAT I'VE TRIED:

Disabled Windows Defender (real-time + Tamper Protection)
Disabled NordVPN + Threat Protection completely
Run as Administrator
Windows 10 compatibility mode
Updated VC++ Redistributables to latest
Cleared Native Access cache, restarted NTKDaemon
Fresh downloads of every installer
Copied installer outside user profile to C:\atemp
.NET Framework 4.8.1 confirmed installed

MY SYSTEM:

Windows 11 Home 25H2 (Build 26200.7840)
Intel Core i9-14900HX
32GB RAM
NVIDIA RTX 4070 Laptop

ROOT CAUSE:
BitRock InstallBuilder's changelog shows v24.11.0 added "Improved Windows 11 detection." The iZotope installers ship with v24.7.0 which predates that fix. The 32-bit runtime appears to be incompatible with Windows 11 25H2's WOW64 subsystem.

iZotope needs to rebuild these installers with an updated BitRock runtime (v24.11.0+) or switch to 64-bit like they did with Ozone 12.

Is anyone else on Windows 11 25H2 hitting this? Any workarounds I'm missing?

Updated VC++ Redistributables to latest

VC++ comes as both X64 and X86 , do you have the required (?) X86 ones installed (if required ? and have you also tried repairing those ?)

A user having another problem then reported also needing Microsoft.net Framework version 9.0 as well .

Also then check out this comment by VocalPoint with respect to the MS VC++ also .

Thanks for the suggestion PoorFellow! I checked and both x86 and x64 VC++ 2015-2022 Redistributables are installed (v14.50.35719, latest), along with .NET Framework 4.8.1 and .NET 8.0.8 runtimes. So unfortunately that's not it.
The error itself (Unknown tag <stringParameter>) is coming from the BitRock InstallBuilder runtime that iZotope uses
for their 32-bit installers — it fails during XML parsing before it even gets to dependency checks. Ozone 12 installs fine because it uses a 64-bit installer, and all NI products work because they use MSI. It seems to be specifically a
BitRock 32-bit runtime incompatibility with Win11 25H2's WOW64 subsystem.

I've also tried submitting a support ticket directly to iZotope, but I keep getting stuck on their AI assistant and
can't seem to get through to actually file one. If anyone knows how to bypass it and reach a real support form, that
would be helpful too.

Have not encountered any installation issues on ANY iZotope product - but I am using Windows 10 22H2.

I am moving to Windows 11 24H2 in the coming weeks and will remember this thread when testing.

Update — further research findings

I've done some more digging into this and can confirm it's definitively a BitRock InstallBuilder compatibility issue,
not a Windows configuration problem.

Key findings:

This is not limited to iZotope. Other software using BitRock InstallBuilder v24.7.0 or earlier is affected too —
reports exist for Quicken, Adobe Acrobat Reader, and WebEx installers on 25H2.
BitRock released v24.11.0 in late 2024 which added Windows 11 detection improvements and compatibility fixes. The
iZotope installers ship with v24.7.0, which predates these fixes.
The 32-bit installer runtime (oifw / WOW64 subsystem) is what's breaking. The actual product binaries are 64-bit and
work fine — it's purely the installer wrapper that fails.
Microsoft has not acknowledged this in their known issues for 25H2.

What needs to happen: iZotope/NI need to rebuild their installers using BitRock InstallBuilder v24.11.0 or later. No
amount of compatibility modes, VC++ redists, or .NET frameworks on our end will fix this — the XML parser in the older
BitRock runtime simply can't handle whatever changed in 25H2's WOW64 layer.

@Vocalpoint — interested to hear if 24H2 works for you. My guess is it will, since this seems specific to 25H2
changes. That would help narrow down exactly which Windows update introduced the breakage.

I've also opened a support ticket with iZotope but no response yet.

While I am not discounting your specific experience - I find it interesting that this is the first I have heard of this issue.

Tens of thousands are on 25H2 and using IzoTope products. This should be a rampant issue that should have bubbled up huge by now.

This test VM is a clean Windows 11 Pro 25H2 install done a week ago. Nothing was previously installed to it outside of standard Windows Update and the usual stuff.

I purposely picked items from all over the iZotope timeline to ensure I was using all sorts of installer tech map. Three were installed via Product Portal, several via manual installers and several via Native Access. Not an error or oddity to report with any of them.

Pretty sure I could have installed every product I have ever owned from Izotope but I think the point is made.

Whatever is going on over there - it appears to be environmental to your machine and has nothing to do with iZoTope installers that I can see.

I am experiencing the exact same issue. I'm on Windows build 25H2 (OS Build 26200.8037) and am getting the exact same error messages you are when trying to install RX. Were you ever able to isolate what was causing the problem? Vocalpoint seems to think it is not an issue with BitRock as you suggest.

If this was a rampant install issue - we would have tons of reports of issues.

Something is up with your OS install or key runtime libraries are either missing or way out of date over there.

Yes, I agree it's system dependent. Just wondering if the OP had any personal insight. It's hard to know what exactly is causing the issue. I've run sfc and dism, which did find issues, and now the installers get further, but still fail. Obviously something critical has happened on my computer specifically. Oddly enough, it is also causing some of my other audio software installers to fail as well.

Have you done a .NET audit and especially ensured that you Visual C++ redistributables are up to date?

Without these two pieces being in a known good (current) state - anything could happen.

Looks like my 2012 and v14 Redistributable versions match yours. I'm not sure how to check on the 2015 UWP Runtime Package, other than looking at it directly on the filesystem:

There is an x86 equivalent as well.

I was missing the v14 redistributable until today, but installing it and restarting hasn't changed anything.
