Maschine 3 stand alone sound cracks and graphic stutters, while as a VST in a DAW all is fine!?

I recently bought a Maschine MK3, it came with the Maschine 3 software. If Maschine 3 runs as a Windows app, I have frequent sound crackles (yes, I tuned the ASIO buffer) and also the graphics is not smooth, the playhead moves stuttery and dragging an instrument windows is also stuttery. There obviously is something wrong, but I can't figure out what.

I decided just as a test to open Maschine as a VST in a DAW and guess what? No more sound cracks and graphics is fluent.

One would think having the DAW open puts extra strain on the CPU, but it help the Maschine to operate better. Beats me ... what could be going on here? I prefer using Maschine 3 stand alone. What can I check / change on my PC to get the same performance as VST?

This is a screenshot of the Audio settings. I have a NI Komplete Audio device in use, which is why the Komplete Audio ASIO driver is selected. The small window shows the settings of that driver.

Everything looks OK but since you are in trouble you have to experiment with some different settings.

Try 128 first. This might seems odd, since it will lower the latency even more (which normally it could cause more crackles) but sometimes, devices work better with this setting (or even with lower ones -but lets start with this one-).

If it doesn't work as it should then you have to go to 512 which is also a decent latency, though definitely not ideal for playing instruments live performances.

I would also suggest you to change the old "standard" of 44100 Hz and go up to 48000 and if it works, to keep it as a standard (actually, it was the real studio standard since the early 90's) i can't understand why we went back to the "CD Preferences"… Ideally you could raise it up to 96000 Hz which is a standard for a lot of hardware synths (Clavia's Nord Lead is a good example) but it will need a lot of processing power so generally i don't recommend it for home studios.

Anyway, try to mix different sample rates with different buffer sizes and experiment.
If nothing works then you should consider a different ASIO driver (and/or a better audio card maybe).

That said, i have to say that you might have a different problem, since you mentioned that in DAW there are no audio problems. Is it possible that you might have, for example, a heavy plugin always loading with a default Maschine template? Few months ago, there was a guy who had the entire Ozone mastering tools running all the time in his master section! And he was complaining about audio crackles and high CPU load… 😋 …just saying.

Thanks for trying to help Sunborn, it's appreciated.

I tried all kinds of settings for sample rate and buffer size, it does not make any difference. It feels as if that has nothing to do with the issue, even more so because the issue is gone once Maschine 3 is started inside a DAW, while the same settings are used.

I Googled and found talk of changing some Windows settings that might seem unrelated, like for instance set max CPU power not on 100% but on 99% seems to help some people.

I do not start anything with Maschine ... empty file and the first VST instrument added already has the issue. By the way, some VST windows do not show the full content on a 4k monitor, which makes they can not be used at all, I posted about that in another thread, I hope development will correct that in the next version.

As a work around I have to start Maschine inside a DAW, but that of course should not be the default way of working.
