Ableton Link - Send MIDI - Receive MIDI does not work betweek Maschine and Traktor
Hi there,
I hope someone will help me sort this issue.
I used to sync Maschine and Traktor in Windows and I could send MIDI clock from Maschine to Traktor.
This is not the case with Mac.
These are my settings:
- Traktor overall view
Trakror > Preferences > External Sync
Traktor > Preferences > Controller Manager
Maschine > Preferences > MIDI > input
Maschine > Preferences > MIDI > output
Comments on the issue
If I change the BPM on my Maschine, the displayed BPM value increases (in this case 146 BPM), but the tempo remains the same. That means that the tempo will remain at 120 BPM in Maschine despite the BPM display being different (146 BPM).
Traktor will remain untouched and the BPM is still at 120 BPM.
In Traktor
If I change the BPM (from the X1 controller), the BPM of the deck changes (128.61 BPM) and the tempo will accelerate, getting out of tune with Maschine, as Maschine is still running at 120 BPM.
The Master Clock in Traktor remains at 120 BPM.
If I press Sync on my X1 controller, the BPM of the playing Deck switches back to 120 BPM, and get in sync with Maschine.
It seems that I am not able to change the Traktor Master Clock from Maschine.
As Maschine gets in sync with the Master Clock from Traktor, I am not able to change the Master Clock in Traktor from my Deck.
I am struggling to find a solution to this problem.
Can anyone help?
Thanks.
Yves

Link and MIDI Clock are different things, I would start off by trying one of either at a time, you have both things enabled which coud be confusing the software.

That's strange! I never use the preferences menu, I've always just pressed the "Link" button in the title bar and it was always automatic, for both sides of communication?!

@Maxray could you share your Preferences page in both Traktor and Maschine? I wonder if I copy your configuration it would unlock Ableton Link.
Traktor > Preferences > External Sync
Maschine > Preferences > MIDI (input and output)
Thank you π

i believe you need to create a generic controller in traktor(settings/controller manager) and then set the input & output ports to the IAC virtual midi ports you have created..(only requires that the virtual midi ports be set)
which means you need to create the IAC virtual midi port in the "audio midi setup" search on youtube for virtual midi port apple
set the IAC virtual midi ports on both Traktor & maschine with maschine receiving sync
good luck!0 -
alternatively you could just use the "link" function(by clicking the "Link" button within both Maschine & Traktor,
if you wanted a midi to link or link to midi setup you could sideload a application from a ipad/iphone called "midi sync link" & install it onto your mac, midi sync link will operate in the background provided your audio applications can see midi virtual ports &/or support both ableton-link &/or receive/send midiclock

Here are the settings, linked to Ableton! There should be no other action. I have Maschine being controlled by Ableton. No Midi settings were necessary, it's automatic! If you need to setup Maschine MIDI control with Traktor, you need to do that from Controller Editor.

One device is being controlled by the other⦠Traktor is the master sync/"Send" and Maschine is the slave sync/'Receive", which is why the BPM doesn't change when you alter it in Maschine.
If you look at this image, you can see I can do the same in Maschine. If you want to change the tempo in the track during playback, you need to do that from the Scene's context menu.

Alternatively, you can program a tempo change in Ableton or a manual change in Traktor to have the desired effect. You should also be able to sync your BPM to the current track playing in Traktor, using the sync button.

Thank you @Maxray ,
I'll try the recommendations above.
I think I'll try to install Traktor and Maschine on my PC and see if that works and how everything is configured.
Thanks

Well,
No matter what I do, I just can't control the tempo of Traktor from Maschine.
However, I managed to control Maschine from Traktor.
I deactivated the Master Clock and managed to select the desired Deck on my X1 as the Master Deck.
If I do that, the Master Clock will follow the Deck BPM, so Maschine.
The only issue is that if I stop the Master Deck, a huge buzz sound occurs.
I have to replay the track or select another Deck as the Master Deck.
It is a bit tricky but it seems to work for now
