Komplete Kontrol 3 - Slow previews (KBDSW-7936)

Since the last update, the previews have become really slow to navigate. I used to select a preset and scroll through them using the arrow keys on my keyboard, but now every preset takes more time to load than it used to, making the Komplete Kontrol experience very sluggish.

Previously, the navigation was almost instant, with the preset selection moving immediately. Now, if I press up or down three times in a row, the GUI takes up to two seconds to respond, update the selection on the screen, and start playing the preview. It might not sound like much, but when cycling through hundreds of presets, it adds up and makes it difficult to find the sound I'm looking for.

I have around 40,000 presets, and the issue persists even when I select a subset of presets. It is also present after a full database rebuild.

Is anyone else experiencing the same issue?

Hey @moai What's your operating system? Is this happening in Komplete Kontrol in standalone, in a DAW? Both? What DAW is it?

same for me with KK 3.3.1 it seems to had some "latency' when switching presets (previous/next), I'm on Win 11 Pro and standalone KK

Is this happening more with Kontakt libraries?

Sounds like what I noted way back when KK V3 was first released, the browser is slow and not at all as snappy or convenient to use as V2. Even if what you see is worse than what it was, it was still IMO far slower and sluggish than the prior version.

I think it's hard to generalize on these things. I've seen a marked improvement in responsiveness in this last release. But it all depends on the complexity of the plugin from what I can tell. For example, Gravity 2 is relatively slow to respond in comparison to something like Alicia's Keys which is almost instantaneous, but it's considerably more complex functionally. That being said Alicia's Keys is faster in Kontakt 7, but Kontakt 7 has less overhead and capabilities than Komplete Kontrol and given that, I'm not sure it's significantly slower.

The only ones that really take a while are non fully NKS compatible plugins like the bigger orchestras from 8DIO, but they've always been slow because of the size of their sample libraries. Other than those I can't say I'm impatiently waiting for things to load when I'm working on a project as much as I used to. I've recently been updating some of my bass tracks from Scarbee Rickenbacker Bass to Session Bassist - Prime Bass and there's really no perceivable pause at all.

But to be honest, I've adapted to the new workflow in Komplete Kontrol so I rarely stay on the individual selected instrument if I decide to change presets as it's MUCH faster jump over to the full listing of the libraries and selecting the preset for my active library from there. There's no real penalty in doing it that way since the selected library I'm working on is still selected on the main listing with the same categories of presets showing. I just double click it and I'm back to the instrument page with the new preset.

It happens in both standalone and inside a DAW, with almost no difference when compared in terms of speed. I also tested the latest 3.3.2 update. It's more noticeable on my laptop when compared to my desktop rig. Here my two systems:

    Laptop setup:

    • CPU: i7 1260P
    • GPU: Intel Iris Xe Graphics, no graphics-related software installed
    • Screen: Laptop's screen 1920x1200px
    • OS: Windows 11 Pro Version 10.0.22631 Build 22631
    • RAM: 16GB
    • Main drive: 500GB SAMSUNG PM9A1 M.2 PCIe 4.0 x4
    • KK installed with NI Access 2, sample libraries installed to an external drive Samsung SSD T9 4TB (Letter D:), connected via USB-C 3.1
    • External devices: Bluetooth mouse and keyboard (without USB plug), SanDisk Pendrive (Letter D:), Headphones connected via USB.
    • Tested on: Studio One 6.6.1, latest FL Studio trial version, Standalone

    Desktop setup:

    • CPU: Ryzen 5900X
    • GPU: EVGA RTX 2060 KO Ultra, GeForce Experience and MSI Afterburner installed
    • Screen: DisplayPort screen 2560x1440px
    • OS: Windows 11 Pro Version 10.0.22631 Build 22631
    • RAM: 4x8GB
    • Main drive: 1TB SAMSUNG 980 PRO M.2 PCIe 4.0 x4
    • KK installed with NI Access 2, sample libraries installed to an external drive Samsung SSD T9 4TB (Letter D:), connected via USB-C 3.1
    • External devices: Bluetooth mouse (without USB plug), USB hub with: Audient id4, Komplete Kontrol A61, wired keyboard
    • Tested on: Studio One 6.6.1, latest FL Studio trial version, Standalone

I am having the same issue. Never used to be this bad/slow. It definitely isnt a pc or hardware issue as im running on an M2 with a good processor. Even running KK standalone and it is visibly slow to navigate via the keyboard.

    Ryzen 5600x, 64gb ram, 1tb WD_BLACK SN850 NVMe SSD, KK 3.3.2, Evo Audient 16 interface, Windows 10 22H2

    I'm having the same problem.

The preview has become so slow that it's troubling me.

I'd like to know how to fix it.

Is there no other option than to wait for an update?

    same issue

Have the same issue and in my case (after some troubleshoot) it was related to the many presets (close to 40000).

Uninstall libraries (or rename the library folders) resolved the preview latency issue for me.

Will there be a update fix for this in komplete kontrol?

uninstall libraries is not a solution. This would mean komplete kontrol would need to deny to further install additional libraries after the db decides to work slow😃…You get my point i think

No of course not. I just wanted to pinpoint what is actually causing the latency. 😊

Do you know when this preview latency started in komplete kontrol?

@Kirderf-73 I'm not completely sure when this started to happen, because I don't know if it's due to the recent addition of NKS libraries to my collection, or a specific KK update that happened last months. I believe I noticed the big decrease of responsiveness on first versions of 3.3, going from almost instant to randomly longer times (last weeks I further tested it, and sometimes takes a second, sometimes three seconds... I can't find a pattern).

I'm also certain it's not disk access speeds, the only thing that changed on my setup is the software and the amount of libraries I have. Sounds like it may be related to how big the local preset list is, and how KK manages the data, I hope NI can address the issue.
