I've recently got into music creation (I bought midi controller and got access to NI software), nice to see so much content and instruments, but ….

10 separate apps? native access, native kontrol, kontakt or player 6,7,8 ?? (app title says 'kontakt', but app inside displays 'kontakt player' - so which one is it ??), reaktor, massive x ... and a few more.

Content added with serials work well, but other content? copied to folders? Which ones ? "C:\Users\Public\Documents" ? Why not in my user dir.

Ok, I copied a lot of instruments to "C:\Users\Public\Documents\", like The Lobby Piano, Wavetable Experiments and some other freebies I found.

How to open them? Do I have to click "Load..." from the menu? and every time navigate to the aforementioned folder and open a single .nki file ? sometimes one folder has 10 of them.... if I want to try them, i need 15 second navigating every F#$^ time to open a file ??? WTF is that ...

I don't see any option to add those directories and instruments permanently to Kontakt player ? (or another app? It's a f@% mess) library ...

There is not too much pleasure working with such software, so much frustration ....

There is not too much pleasure working with such software, so much frustration ....

As a beginner what you want to use is licensed Kontakt libraries. Licensed Kontakt libraries are products that only require Kontakt Player and usually also will install using Native Access. And to the extent that things works as expected (does so for majority of users) then after installation using N.A: then your stuff will automatically be available for use in the proper app (e.g. Kontakt Player 8).

If you as a beginner tries to use unlicensed Kontakt libraries or you try to use Kontakt Player 8 in a manner where it will not work will only cause grief because you have not learned even the basic use first. (e.g. using own samples are not supported in Player version and requires full version) . ( Kontakt 8 Player - Kontakt 8 full , Comparison chart , Third-Party KONTAKT Libraries - Licensed vs. Unlicensed )

Then copying things without knowing where things belong does not help either.

Prior to installing you would have wanted to look into the N.A. app and then select the paths where to install. In particular you want to set the Content location to a place of your choice , a good place for Content would a secondary internal drive that is both large and fast (think SSD) Always leave Application location to default place on system drive.

But NI actually try to help people understand their software (other than reading the manual) so I would suggest that you watch the How to use everything Kontakt 8 video, I have put link in so that your Kontakt question will be answered and Jeff will also show the N.A. use.

As a NI keyboard owner you'd also want to watch the How to use everything in KOMPLETE KONTROL software and since you also got a free Abletob Live Lite DAW with your NI keyboard then you can also check the How to use Native Instruments tools with Ableton

Native Access is for installing and activating software - lots of companies have installer apps.

Komplete Kontrol app is for interfacing your keyboard with NKS compatible software and plugins

Kontakt (8) simply put is a sample player used to play the sound of sample libraries , as a new user ignore other Kontakt versions than Kontakt 8. (somebody named Kontakt 6 just Kontakt)

Reaktor 6 is a synth that is both a standalone app and a plugin (if you do not want to use a particular synth then you are free to not install and free to not use.)

Massive is another synth that is both a standalone app and a plugin (if you do not want to use a particular synth then you are free to not install and free to not use.)

Massive X is a synth that is a plugin (if you do not want to use a particular synth then you are free to not install and free to not use.)

What else you have depends on what Komplete bundle that you own.

Yes , that is for use in connection with specific apps installed.

yeah, let's say I'm a beginner (if it's about sound producing or NI), however, I'm a developer also, and I can easily see crap ;)

software installed using license keys work well, but some stuff like, requires copying file, and adding it (wow! like that small gear cog left/botton corner next to volume slider !!! WTF … I spent 2h looking this option in menu options/settings in every app !! what a great UX).

however, newly added instruments are NOT nicely grouped in Kontakt library, just some random new groups (without a proper name and without icons/thumbnails)

example ^^ you can see 4 different folders/libraries/instruments, mixed into one 'Instruments' group.

And remember - ANY third party libraries that are not managed by Native Access (like your "Instruments" folder there)- will never show up in the Kontakt Browser.

You must load them via the Files tab in Classic View.

As I wrote in the above then when being a beginner with the NI software then you should stick with the licensed libraries since that generally works easiest and your UI complaints would not have happened had you stayed with licensed libraries. Also you should know the value of consulting the 'user guide' if there is something that escapes you..

I do not think that it can be any fault of NI if you do not check the requirements of your third party downloads.

If you want something free and licensed to play with then check the Fracture Sounds : Blueprint Collection , 21(?) free Kontakt instruments that works with the free Kontakt Player and the Infinite Collection – Free Kontakt Library | Emergence Audio (thank you at VocalPoint for the tip)

Please notice that after that you have entered/redeemed a serial into Native Access then it can take a little while before refreshing the app makes the product appear in the library and sometimes a computer reboot can be needed for product to appear in the N.A. library.

I'm a professional programmer for 25 years, I've installed hundreds of libraries, solved thousands of conflicts, and you're telling me I'm a beginner with "simple/not so friendly" UI app ? I suppose "music producers" have a deep knowledge about Windows dynamic link libraries, dependencies, registry and they graduated computer science/information univerities… don't you think it sounds like a joke ?? you're telling me I need years "experience" to deal with purely UI app ? Can you hear yourself? :) - this is exactly what I'm talking about, worst shit ever …

I'm not attacking you, I'm still thanking you for your responses and for links :) it's a post for NI employees, and maybe others (with possibly Stockholm syndrome?:) ) that don't see obvious problems.

If you have development experience, you could always looks at KSP and create some custom scripts to resolve your issues but starting with the user manual is probably your best bet but yeah music producers are kind of used to odd, esoteric software and hunting down errant DLL's and modifying registries lol

Unless that you are not interested in the content of the Komplete bundles then it is a far better deal to get Komplete 26 Standard than starting to pay 'hundreds' for any single NI app , and of course it's particularly advantageous to choose the bundle if bought when on sale. But of course if you do not like the eco system or the apps then there is no need to make an investment in getting the software.
