You're low on power

For some strange reason i can't get my keyboard to work. After unplugging the cables to clean the dust on it, it keeps showing a message that i'm low on power. I tried to plug it into a 25w charger with a C to A cable. It didn't work, so i tried a 60w charger with a C to C cable, still low on power. I had not used anything wet to clean the keyboard.

I had been using the keyboard for months. It was powered with a very short usb cable, that was connected to a humble (non self powered) usb extender that was connected to the monitor. And the keyboard was functioning just fine.

Unfortunately the only C port on the motherboard is already taken by the Soundcard. None of the other cables i had around worked either. Being connected to the pc or the chargers. I made sure the wires are not mixed up and are properly connected to the device.

Any ideas?

USB-A as a rule can not supply enough power , also it is entirely possible that the cable/adapter can not supply power.

As for USB-C then both cable and PSU should be certified to support USB-C PD power delivery. Not all USB-C cables can supply power.

So you connected a power connection to the USB input specifically for power and it still states "low on power"? Sounds possibly like a fault, may ahve to contact support direct via the website.

It might be that, but. As a last ditch effort i went to the store once more, and asked for the most expensive charger they had. And although the cable is a bit short, and i wasted a lot of money. They gave me a 120W charger that has a C to C port, and it finally powered on.

Yes, although this is really stupid. But it also explains why it was able to run without issue before. So i tested it and indeed no matter how powerful the cable or the charger is. If it's not a C to C cable, it will always refuse. Why? No clue.

That was half the issue. We were right on the C to C cable. I had initially used a non charging one. But if it's a good C cable it will accept power from whatever the source is. And me buying an expensive brick was useless even though it worked. That explains why i had no issues before. Don't know why this is, if the packaging sings much better specs than a C cable.

I also have the mentioned audio interface which also uses one C port for data and the other for power. And it kind of worked but to use the full capabilities i had to use pure C cables for it as well.

Logically it makes sense that the biggest keyboard in the MK3 range would require the most power, and it has a USB-C socket for the power because USB-C has PD (power delivery) allowing it to deliver voltage and current higher than the regular 5V 500mA max of previous USB cables.

Using any other cable than a properly rated USB-C to USB-C - connected directly (no thoughts of ever using a hub) to a known good USB-C port - is asking for trouble.

One look at the flagship S88MKIII should tell you that power is critical.
