Hey everyone,
I wanted to share an issue I’ve been dealing with and how I finally solved it, in case it helps someone else.
🔧 Setup
- Laptop: Dell Inspiron 14 (i7-8565U)
- Controller: Traktor Kontrol S2 MK3
- Software: Traktor Pro
- Recently installed: Ableton Live 12
❗ Problem
Everything worked perfectly at the beginning of the set, but after about 20–30 minutes, the audio would start:
- crackling
- distorting
- breaking up badly
Important details:
- Traktor CPU load was LOW
- Temperatures were normal
- Increasing buffer helped slightly, but did not fix the issue
🧪 What I tested
- Different USB ports (USB 2.0 and 3.0) → same issue
- Thermal conditions → not the cause
- Tested the controller on another (gaming) PC → worked perfectly for 50+ minutes
👉 This confirmed it was NOT a hardware issue
💥 Root cause
The issue started right after installing Ableton Live 12.
It introduced an additional ASIO driver that caused:
- driver conflicts
- possible DPC latency spikes
- increasing instability over time
Even though Traktor was set to the correct device, the system still had conflicting audio layers.
✅ Solution
- Go to Traktor Preferences → Audio Setup→ Select: Traktor Kontrol S2 MK3 ASIO (official driver)
- Avoid or remove:
- Restart the system
🎯 Result
- No more crackling
- Stable audio for 50+ minutes (tested)
- System fully reliable again
🧠 Key insight
If your audio starts breaking after some time (not immediately) and CPU load is low:
👉 It’s very likely a driver conflict or system latency issue, not raw performance.
Hope this helps someone out there — this one was tricky to track down.
Cheers! 🎧
