Licensing Issue.

Hi. New to the Traktor ecosystem. I recently purchased a used S4 Mk3. Which the seller provided a license transfer code. Yet it is for the "Pro 4" upgrade. Not the original "Pro 3" that originally came with the S4 Mk3 upon it's release.

1. Will NI provide me with assistance in getting Pro 3 as it was originally with the unit?

2. Am I able to input the hardware serial number from the bottom of the unit into Native Access & get Pro 3 & then use the licence transfer code as i was advised.

Did you get a transfer ID that included the hardware? That's the normal way for people to sell hardware as detailed here - https://support.native-instruments.com/hc/en-us/articles/210288845-Buying-or-Selling-a-Native-Instruments-Product-Second-Hand. It sounds like you were only given a transfer ID for the TP4 upgrade. Can you contact the seller and ask for a hardware transfer?

Hi. I contacted him stating this. And his reply was as as follows: "Just checked it it’s all done my end .. should be able to put in serial and go from there .. 👍"

His secondary reply was as follows: "Once you put in serial number it should let you download pro2 then up grade from there !! 👍"

I am very confused & wondering if i will have to buy Pro 4 because the seller did not provide the correct information.

It sounds like he's not done the hardware transfer correctly. and doesn't realise he has to do a hardware transfer as well as the software. If he's not being particularly cooperative it's probably best to contact support and tell them the situation and see what they can do for you. If you bought a S4 Mk3 it most likely came with a Traktor Pro 3 licence when the unit was new. If the unit was first bought as new after the release of Traktor Pro 4 it may already came with a licence for that version. If it is really a Mk3 (and not Mk2) it didn't ship with Traktor (Scratch) Pro 2.

If the seller made the transfer correctly the transfer ID should be for the Kontrol S4 Mk3 (as stated within article linked by mykejb). If you enter this to your account it should register the hardware unit to your account and grant you access to the original Traktor version it came with (either Pro 3 or Pro 4).

The hardware serial of the unit is only of use in Native Access if - and only if - it wasn't previously registered by a previous owner with NI. Otherwise you need the correct transfer ID or have to contact NI support to transfer the unit to your account. You usually will need a proof of purchase and a picture of the hardware serial on the unit in this process.

I see following possibilities:

1.) Unit came with Pro 3 at first sale and seller provided correct hardware transfer ID: You get Traktor Pro 3 if you want Pro 4 you'll have to buy an upgrade.

2.) Unit came with Pro 4 at first sale and seller provides correct hardware transfer ID: You get Traktor Pro 4. There is no way of getting a Pro 3 licence.

3.) Unit came with Pro 3 at first sale and was never registered with NI: Enter hardware serial in Native Acces to register the unit. You will get Traktor Pro 3. The transfer ID then maybe is for an upgrade licence to Pro 4. You can enter it after hardware registration. Otherwise you have to buy the upgrade - but I have no clue for what the transfer ID should be in this case.

4.) Unit came with Pro 3 at first sale and is registered with NI by a previous owner - you got a transfer ID for a Traktor Pro 4 upgrade. Handle hardware transfer with NI support to register unit and Pro 3. Use transfer ID to upgrade to Pro 4 after that.
