After some great chitchat over the weekend - I have now confirmed the actual "reason" for all these Download Failed messages when we attempt to install all these recent Expansion updates (on Windows)
Summary
If you have any Expansion that has not been updated in a long while - your target installation folder will (most likely) look like this:
And it's accompanying *.json file (found @ C:\Users\Public\Documents\Native Instruments\installed_products) will have an internal reference to that folder - like so:
All these "new" Expansion update installers - now expect to see a different path - one that contains the word "Library" tacked on to the end of to the folder path - so I edited my *.json:
And - added the word "Library" to my current install of Faded Reels:
And then proceeded with the Update:
And it's all good.
Not exactly sure what NI is thinking here - as I must have 30-40 Expansions installed that do not have the word "Library" in the folder path - but this is what is causing the hassle factor.
The current "workaround" suggested is to Reinstall these products - which WILL create a new (correct) folder path but after my analysis this weekend - will also install a duplicate copy of your library - quickly chewing up valuable disk space.
So if you do this workaround - make sure to review your Content area AFTER reinstalls and clean up all the "old" folders (the ones without Library on the end of the folder name)
Hopefully NI figures this one out - which will most likely require an install routine that both uninstalls the old AND reinstalls a new (corrected folder path) for each library on the fly to get this right on everyone's machines out there.
