Traktor Play 4 - Immensely dissatisfied

I unfortunately made the mistake of paying for this software. On the website its marketed as a lightweight version of the pro software with a more "steamlined" or simple approach - however they put it. Admittently I didn't see what the version couldn't do but I read it had 2xtrack decks ,a few plugins, couple other features and I was happy as I simply mix as a hobby, or for fun. This sounded like a great option. I saw my controller wasn't supported or one of the little few that are supported however, feedback online assures you that Traktor has vast product support for pretty much any controller etc etc. I have used 3rd party mapping previously to get my controller working and it was 100%. After installing I came to the realization that in this version you cannot import your own midi/controller mappings. You cannot even EDIT an existing mapping or create one from scratch. You are left with the default option of keyboard and mouse seriously?? On top of that the recording function is disabled so you cannot record your mixes. There's a whole long list of other features which are effectively disabled leaving this software feeling like a glorified MP3 player. I have always been a fan of Traktor and I still think its awesome software - but to me this feels like a bit of a con. I am aware its my fault for not adequately checking or researching this 'basic' version before I paid but was it such a stretch to assume it would have basic functionality or support for other controllers on the market! Now I am forced to upgrade to the pro version which is more money that I wanted to spend in the 1st place hence why I chose the basic version. You literally cannot get any joy out this program unless you have one of the few supported controllers that are supported on this version. There should be a warning to users before purchasing this - 'Please check you have one of these controllers otherwise you will be using keyboard and mouse". Why disable that functionality for people who want to pay to use your software??? At least give your customers the opportunity to use their own controller or import mappings for their device… Clearly its just a ploy to force you to pay for the pro version. Really disappointed but hey what can you do.

And then you stumble across a post that the company is going into insolvency proceedings…My money feels like it went down the drain sorry to say, Cheers.

This is a good way to put it.

I don't understand why they sell it. When you have a flx4 it comes with the controller for free, if you don't have one of the supported controllers it's useless.

It's also not more simplified or streamlined. It's just the same as pro with features disabled.

IMO it's not unusual for cheap/free DJ software to either have no mapping whatsoever, or only support one (or a small number) of controllers compared to the full version.

VirtualDJ has no mapping in the unlicensed version, and the Home Plus version they sold was tied to the one controller you bought a license for. They now have an audio announcement in the non Pro versions.

What controller do you have? In most cases they come with software, even if it's a basic version.

I have a Hercules DJcontrol Inpulse 500. It comes with something called "Djuced" which is okay but wasn't loving it. And also a basic version of Serato DJ. I've always used Traktor and been happy with it.

The manufacturer has Traktor 3 mapping on their website which I was going to try use - but I was even willing to try build my own mapping from scratch if needed. I also read a guide on this procedure from this website! but it seems when you query anything about "play 4" it seems to send you to guides and info for the 'pro version' which ultimately. Going to wait a month (so I dont have to starve for the sake of Traktor lol) and perhaps upgrade to the full version. I dont feel like dumping another 75$ on this program now. "Djuced" seems to be built specifically for this controller as the functionality works the best in that app that problem is the thing crashes constantly.

This is on the product breakdown page for Traktor play 4. Totally misleading. And you get to the bottom of the page and its an 'order now' button. They advise you what you get as part of your purchase but you only actually see all the disabled features once u click on the compare button…I dont expect them to have a huge notice about all their disabled features just before you buy but just the whole idea behind this basic/streamlined version is too sneaky for my liking. I'm sure other people have probably had the same issue. Back to DJUCED i guess :p

Have you considered Algoriddim's djay Pro? The Inpulse 500 is natively supported, and the software will give you the best beatgridding on the planet, real time stem separation and access to Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal and Soundcloud (in addition to Traktor's mere two streaming options).

It's a subscription but it's cheap - especially the annual option.

You could also sub to VDJ for a month…

Yeah I also was dissapointed with Traktor Play. Aside from a S2 mk3, I also own a DDJ-FLX4 and it workwed but in a very limited capacity
