This is just a simply, short post to call attention to how absurd it is that a company the size of Native could release a basic OS update that we not only have to pay for on an already $1000+ piece of hardware, but that will literally brick your device if you proceed to update it as you cannot re-register a piece of hardware already registered to you account. Now my maschine+ is bricked and it's the holidays so the odds of getting a reply any time within a week are minimal.
This just adds insult to injury with the regular Kontrol S'88N MKIII firmware shit show. I cannot simply update my S'88 with it plugged into my Mac Studio directly via USB-C. No no no. I have to connect a dedicate 60w+ PSU to an AC wall outlet just for power, then connect a USB-A to USB-C cable on the data lane to the controller and then that cable has to be plugged into a USB hub that MUST be on USB-A and plugged directly into the MAC Studio rear ports. If I don't do that, it's bricked and has to be RMA'd.
It needs to be said, and I hate to be the one to say it, but this is utter incompetence on Native Instruments and completely unacceptable for the price of these products. No other manufacturer has these issues. I updated a Sequential Prophet 8 REV2 today without this many issues and those come with half a dozen warnings of how hard they are to update and that youshould only do the updates if you have specific issues, which I unfortunately did.
I'm extremely disappointed. I think I'm done with Native at this point. I'll keep what I have, but no more after this. At the absolute bare minimum, the update you have to friggen BUY for this hardware should come with a warning that it WLL brick your device and you will REQUIRE support to use it again. Some of us work during the holidays, y'all. know, right?
