Remapping MX2 FX Controls & Pattern Player to stem control

Hi there! Very much a beginner over here. I have an old Z1 that I'd like to upgrade so I can use my controller for stem control. I'm waffling between the Z1 MK2 and the MX2.

The Z1 is familiar and I love that the stems are controlled via knobs.

The MX2 feels like total overkill for my current state, but it would be a nice controller for me to grow into. However, I don't like the default stem control options with a single dial and the pads (I want to be able to turn up/down two stems simultaneously).

My primary question: Is it possible on the MX2 to remap the FX Controls & Pattern Player dials and buttons to control the stems? How difficult is this?

I think I'd want the button under each dial to turn the stem on/off completely like when you click that tiny dot next to the stem in TP4, while the dials would turn the stem volume up/down.

Secondary question: Would you recommend the Z1 MK2 (perhaps paired with an X1?), or an MX2, if I care most about these features from my next controller?

Stem control with an individual dial for each stem (and ideally an on/off button for each nearby)
The ability to browse through my songs and load onto the decks
Basic FX (easy access to a couple options is enough for me, at least right now)
Controlling loops (turning existing loops on/off; creating loops on the fly)
Turning Sync on/off (I am a beginner with beat matching and want to improve)

I would not use the z1 without x1.

mx2 should be very good for this. You have dedicated buttons for that, that are mirrored on each deck. You can pre-listen from the playlists without loading it into a deck.

For the x1 I installed a mod from the forum just for this purpose. While it's possible out of the box to go through your playlists and load songs, it was not possible to pre-listen to them from the playlists. Now it can do everything in that department.

Basic FX

X1 gives you full control of the "advanced" fx, z1 gives you the simpler mixer fx, mx2 gives you both.

Controlling loops

Both x1 and mx2 should give you full control over them.

Turning Sync on/off

No problem on x1 and mx2.

mx2 is nicer to learn how to beatmatch. It's just not that fun on x1 without pitch fader and jog. Possible, but I don't find it to be fun.

I don't know how the stem control is on the mx2, but otherwise it's a very powerful unit, that is also good for beginners.

z1 + x1 combo is also good, but more niche. I use the x1 because I combine it with an external mixer (Xone 96) and when I'm mobile without that big mixer I can add the z1 and have a full setup with similar control.
