Why isn't Aerobic visible in the stacked macro?

I'm trying to build an ensemble that allows me to have all (well most) of the factory grooveboxes available, toggled on and off by midi keys. I've got the individual grooveboxes modified to work correctly, allowing them to operate either in auto mode (the way they work out of the box, producing sound whenever the playhead is engaged), gate mode (where any midi note plays the sound, and no midi note silences it) or specific midi note.

All fine and good.

But when I try rolling them all up inside a stacked macro, I'm getting no joy. I'm starting with just Aerobic. It plays just fine, but when the stacked macro is visible, the aerobic ensemble nested inside it isn't, and vice versa. Hide the stacked macro, the aerobic interface appears. Show the macro, Aerobic disappears.

Aerobic is quite complex, and I don't understand any of it, but I suspect there might be another stacked macro inside of it somewhere. Would that explain why it's behaving this way?

And if so, what's the workaround? Can I just switch to a dozen plain macros, and toggle their visibility to manage showing/hiding their controls?

Any advice most welcome! The problematic ensemble is Groovebox Enchilada, but I include my modified version of Aerobic for comparison.

I think it's a kind of graphic thing and it has to do with the Layer.

Check your stacked macro and make sure that it is at Layer 2 (or lower). Also, all the included macros, put them on the same Layer

I don't think so… I tried bumping up the layer for everything that was a gui control, but it's still not showing up. Only now it's also not showing up when I turn it off. So I did manage to push it to a deeper layer, which is under everything.

I did confirm that there is definitely a nested stacked macro within the structure of aerobic. So maybe that's the problem?

I'm going to try building a testing ensemble to see if I can put another ensemble, which I know has no nested stack macros, and get it to play nice with the outermost stacked macro. Will report back.

OK, confirmed it's not the nested macros. I can nest macros just fine.

Must be something else. Will continue to investigate.

OK, I think I figured it out. Stacked macros get hinky when they contain an ensemble, but not a macro or stacked macro.

I think if I replace all the nested ensembles with equivalent macros & wire them up, it should solve the problem. Tedious, but doable.

I'll take a flyer at it tomorrow and report back.

Good point.

I also never use ensembles inside other ensembles (or macros!).

Use instruments instead, or, as you correctly wrote, replace them with equivalent macros. ;-)
